3DHS 41" Edge "$99 Buck Huck"

3DHS has done it again!
At the Toledo show this weekend, Ben Fisher from 3DHS unveiled his newest creation. A 41" Edge, based on the widely popular 40" Edge. Scott Stoops, and Ben revised the design with a larger wing, and new looks. It comes with Wire LG(instead of CF) wheel pants, a very cool new cowl, and canopy. It's designed to run the affordable Omega 72g Motor, and Hitec HS45HB servo's.

The new Edge is Dubed the "$99 Buck Huck"! Wow that's allot of plane for $99.00. I have to hand it to Ben. In these economic times, company's need to adapt, and adapt Ben has. I know Ill be hucking the new Edge.

Ben Fisher from 3DHS says:
"The new 41" Edge is actually a good deal *more* 3D capable than even the current 40" Edge. We'll be posting video soon. Scott did a great job on the revamp, it's really, really good aerobatically...and it's a very fun little racer. No reason you can't have both. For $99."

Pictures were taken by "HeritageFlyer" and "theKM"

The 41" Edge will be available soon! Make sure to get your orders in because there not going to last long.

Here's the link to the first 41" edge, build video. you will find the rest on the same page.

3DHS 41" Edge Build video #1 (7 min 35 sec)

After spending some time with the 41" edge, I found it can also handle a bit heavier setup that allows a more durable plane with longer flight times(8minutes!)
I tend to slap the rudder, and elevator on the ground allot with these little birds, so I used two HS65MG's for the rudder, and elevator..I went with two HS65HB's in the wings (to save a hair of weight), and Dubro(#934) Micro servo arm XL, all the way around.. The Dubro arms are strong enough that they flex during a crash, or hard tail slap, but strong enough to get the job done..I was able to get some serious throw, and with a 50deg elevator this thing is a hoot!!!! I even cart wheeled it when I caught the wing tip on a low KE!!! With no damage!!!!
I did use the 72g Omega, with a Hacker 40Pro ESC.. I also decided to go with the same Hyperion 2200mah 35c packs that I use in the 42" slick.. Some may think this setup is to heavy, But I save weight in other places by excluding washers, cutting down bolts and removing all wire connectors,Plastic covers, and extra wire.. Running a 12x6E prop I'm pulling 400W at 37amp at full burst!
I know from experience that the little omega can handle it with the proper cooling...I'm sold!! I think I'll get a back up....

Got to love the 99$ Huck!!!!!!!!!

I like the violent stuff!
I fly with Rob who owns ADC Hobbies, can't wait to see this one! Heard about it yesterday. Love my 40" Edge, it's gettin' pretty banged up and could use replacing. Looks like Ben has another winner!

I posted this in the Addicts thread, but this is gives a little bit of the design philosophy behind the 41...

"...we added tip chord, slightly different wing position, and added span. We are trying to make this model a little bit more friendly to the new 3D pilot. Although I consider the 40" Edge to be an intermediate to advanced pilots 3D airplane, a lot of newer pilots are drawn to it due to its size and price. This, in addition to some cost savings, is the reason for the wire landing gear as well. It will be much more forgiving for new 3D pilot landings...The 41" Edge has been optimized for the crowd that wants max durability and huckability at minimal cost. I predict that will be a pretty big crowd."

Scott, what does the 40" Edge do better than the 41", to make it a better choice for "intermediate to advanced pilots"?

Think of it from another perspective - the 41" is simply easier to 3D in many ways. The 40" airplane is extremely capable, but things happen pretty quickly that require fast thumbs to keep up. The 41" dials it down a notch to make it more friendly in harrier, hover, TR, and RH, while keeping the pitch rate way up for tight tumbles, KE spins, etc. By taking the cube numbers down a bit lower, it will feel lighter, thus more appropriate for the newer 3D pilot. We tried to take all the great from the 40" and apply it to the 41" with a focus on making it more approachable for someone transitioning from a foamy.

Scott,
Im looking forward to this one! I love a plane that flys well in a small spot, and won't cost much to replace.

I just got back from flying your 46" Viper, in 25mph winds!! It's crazy how good it is in the wind.

Thanks again!

the 41" Edge is a really special little plane. It's well mannered, agile, does all the awesome edge specialties, it's excellent. And on all this, it's rugged. That wire landing gear allows you to be so very mean to it. Was down at the shop a while back and Ben and I had a session of practicing low roller landings and snap-to-landing.

I have some more pics to post tonight of the other scheme (silver and blue). There's some video taken of our beat-down session, will be along at some point, maybe after seff (I have forage but my camera washed out. Amy took some but it's non-stop go time until after seff).

I'm so looking forward to getting this thing at my home field... too much fun.

As inexpensive as the new Edge will be, I'm going to treat it with complete disregard and beat it savagely.

Ought to be good fun.
