Ok who got the Hobby King letter in the mail about how they're opening up store fronts in the US? I don't know whether I'm excited to do some local Hobby King shopping or whether I want to buy a franchise...somehow I don't see myself making a whole lot of money being a hobby store owner though

There is no faster way to suck the joy out of a hobby than trying to make a living at it.. For most people that is...

So how many watts does the Skywalker need to climb out at 45 degrees?

I am speaking to those Skywalker owners who's AUW weight is 65 oz or less not the 100oz 600watt guys....lol

I am looking at the 3008-1220kv scorpion as an option, it produces 270 watts on 3s with a 9x6APC....

What do you guys that have a Skywalker think it needs to climb out well?

Thanks for your input

At 58-60oz my Swalkkyer will climb at about 45 degrees using the Scorpion 3008-28 1220kv
motor, on a 3S pack and using a 10x6 folder. I don't push it that hard continuously
for a long time though as that puts it on the edge of the motor's current rating.
I like this motor because it's really light, at 85g. Most of the other 1200ish Kv motors
of similar power, run 130-160g.

Oh...my apology to any hobby shop owners here, I only meant those comments in jest...there is no better support for the RC hobby than the online or local hobby shop!

I purchased one as a sample around Christmas time, I was totally underwhelmed. With bright clouds overhead it couldn't bring the exposure down enough to show any more than a solid white sky, and the colors were odd no matter how they were adjusted. Typical of the CMOS sensors. After testing some of the Pixim based cameras, I have to say that there are many better cameras out there.

Probably you or Daemon. Are we talking Skywalker or other?

Stupid (maybe) question: is this model capable of flight without the airelons? So a rudder only installation.

Yes. IIRC, some people have already flown it without ailerons but you will have to read earlier pages of this thread.

Time versus distance.. With no help from thermals or slope lift, I did about 13 miles in
the air during a 30 minute flight, using 3300mAh worth capacity on a 3S 4000mAh
battery pack. Since this plane can carry 8-10Ah of total capacity, it should be
possible to double that fairly easily.

It will turn with rudder only, but it handles like a super tanker that way.
It's much more responsive with ailerons. I'd pick ailerons-only over rudder-only.

I meant Skywalker...I'm trying to decide between it and a couple of other planes.

I'm looking for about 2 hours...which is what I got on my BWEZ... I'm looking for a plane that'll dash a bit faster...

I don't think the SkyWalker is going to 'DASH' anywhere very fast. I consider mine a slow moving slug that is very stable. Personally, I'm not even sure I'd want to put it through any higher G type manuevers (loops, rolls, etc). Someone already reported wing flap in a (high speed?) dive. I'll bank and yank the heck out of my (reinforced) EZ* though. As for 2 hours. Wow, that's quite some cruise time. The SW glides well, but I don't think you're going to get that kind of flight time unless you're hitting some good thermals. I lighter weight glider type would probably be better at that...at loss of the large cargo bay of the SW.
