Info on VQ Pilatus Porter 2.72m wing span

Hi. I recently ordered one of these as my first effort at a 'giant' semi-scale plane. Is anyone flying this. I'm probably looking at a 20 - 26cc gas engine for 'scalish' flying. I think the plane is about 4kg. Does this sound OK?

I am just finishing one and for it's size this plane is very light. The instructions say 26-30cc and I am going to use the Saito FG-30.
Just waiting for the engine to arrive. I am impressed with how light the airframe is.

Unless you are gonna use it for towing, you are putting too much engine on this airframe. It is very light for it's size.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the info. I want to fly it 'scalish', so it looks like around 26cc. I just wanted to know in case I see a good engine for a good price while I wait for the plane to arrive. I'm tempted by the Saito FG-30, but they are a bit pricey.

Pricey but sweet. The best thing Saito has done in years was to bring out these fourstroke gassers. I have two Fg-20's and am awaiting the arrival of the FG-30. I could not be happier, I have one of the FG20 on a Sr Telemaster and the other on a 98inch J3 Cub.

Best I can do right now. If you don't want the muffler sticking out the side of cowl, you must use a 90 deg. adapter.

Test flown mine last Saturday - with a new Evoloution 26GX on 18x8 prop. First flight was a bit underpowered, until the engine opened up Flight is very scale, it does fly on the wing, not the engine. I expect it to be perfect when engine is fully run in.

For what its worth i have been flyin this model with a 30cc dle and its got great power with a 18 x 6 prop. It will do near vertical take offs and pull up from some stupidly steep approaches. Have been considering doing another one in electric to see if i can do reverse power landings..closest i can come up with to beta landings..
meaty

My 'Australian Army' variant (camofluage covering) came in today. I've assembled most of the bits and pieces (26cc engine, servers etc) and will report how I go.
