Thunder Power has a cool little 4 port pocket charger that I still use to charge all my 1S lipos... it can run off AC or 12v DC (car or agm lead acid battery). or you can get a decent but cheap computerized charger that puts out several amps and run a parallel charging adapter with it to charge more than one at a time. This is a popular one on this forum and it's on sale for a couple more hours with a coupon code... Deal of the Day 15% off Thunder AC6 Charger at hobbypartz.com ... use code AC6DOTD15 ends at 11:59pm PST http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html ... a training set of what? If you mean a training gear... no, don't bother, not for an mcx2) |

Great... that's a good deal! I'm going to pick up one myself for a backup to my Thunder Power 610c acdc. I'm not seeing an ultra micro connector lead in the AC6 pictures (for the mcx2 1S 3.7v type lipos) so you'll probably need to pick up one that'll adapt to one of the others I see in the AC6 package... like maybe to the red JST-RCY one ... like this one my local shop carries... http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...rod_id=BLH3126 Or even better would be a parallel one like Hyperions... http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/g3lipo/lgum6p.htm Yeah, a training gear won't be necessary with the mcx2... start off just hovering and you'll have it whipping around in no time... if you get in to trouble just let go of the sticks and it'll stop moving and self stabilize |

No, you should be good to go with any ultra micro adapter. Like Mike said, there are some things to know first if you're going to parallel charge... like the lipos should all be in more or less the same state of discharge... but then they will self balance, at least with the Hyperion adapter they will... it's all there in the description on the page for the Hyperion adapter I linked to.
I bought a used msr this past winter... I try to keep to around the stock capacity (150mah) because that's what I have the bird trimmed out for (center of gravity) and they give me 6+ minute flights. In my mcx2 I'll grab what's handy and already charged and have flown it with everything from the little 70mah from my ScoutCX to 160mah and everything in between. My favorite lipo right now is the house brand 150 I get from my local hobby store which I suspect is a re-branded Hyperion or Thunder Power or one of the other :good" ones... I'm flying this battery in everything right now including my Champ plane. Miniaviation brand lipos are popular right now... supposedly great performers. Even the new generation 25C E-flite 150mah is good, I'm currently trying one out, they're only 5 bucks at my LHS. |

whats your take on the used MSR? the price is decent and i'd like to have two birds to practice with. the discontinuation issue i just found out about. |

If you're planning to get more birds, I would look into getting a DX6i transmitter. I too have the MCX2 (two of them) and another 4ch single blade heli - like the MSR. It takes a little patience, but in the end it's ultimately a great way to learn. Also, the fact that is programmable gives you the best way to max out the servos and flight characteristics of the MCX2. It's really awesome. Oh, and you can store up to 10 different models in the controllers memory. Very cool

it states on the mCX2 specs it comes with a 120mAh 14C battery. i can order batteries 125mAH or 160mAh 1S 3.7 25C/50C and the mCX2 will accept them, yes? |

I really like my msr and can dial it down if I want and fly it around and pinpoint land it almost as easily as my mcx2... when everything is working right. It doesn't seem to take much for a crash to throw something off and then it's back on the bench for troubleshooting... I think I even made the comment somewhere that I seem to spend more time working on or tweaking it than flying it, but my 120sr can be like that too but not as bad... flies like dream when everything is working right but that usually doesn't last long... but I can usually get the 120sr back to a near perfect hands off hovering condition quicker than my msr. To be honest, I haven't really flown any of my helis in the last couple of months... just when I was really getting the hang of my msr and had John Salt's settings all programmed into my DX6i I started getting interested in surface RC and planes and that's been my latest obsession. I can't even remember what flying condition my msr or 120sr was in when I stuck it on the shelf... but I'll return to them at some point, just having too much fun with my other stuff right now. The one thing I can count on though is my mcx2 is always good to go Quote:
I'd go for the higher capacity. Like I mentioned, I mostly fly my mcx2 with 150 and 160's. You might even use them in things you might purchase in the future. By the way, It's a whole other discussion, but some people have had motor heat issues flying the stock mcx2 closed in tail... which warped the frame to the point where the motor pinion wouldn't engage the spur gear. The best advice to avoid that is to not fly your batteries back to back without a cool down period... or buy and use the Carbon Fiber Tail Boom. I've had the latter on mine since about the 3rd day of owning it and have never had any motor heat issues. You may encounter some vibration using the CF Tail but that's a whole other discussion as well and it's easier to just link to the relevant discussions than re-hash it again... it can be eliminated in most cases and can at least be reduced... but we can cross that bridge if and when you come to it |

i've seen on the forums here folks getting that carbon fiber tail and didn't fully grasp why but i'm gonna order one anyhow now that you educated me on it. i like extra parts about anyways even if i don't use them readily. (*my workbench/room will attest to that*) ;-) really appreciate you and others on this thread taking the time to help me along. quite a bit of overwhelming data to sift through for one's first purchase. i'll start a new thread after these arrive and i've flown a few times and let you know how it went. |
