jacko, sorry they won't back up their Typhoons.
I guess the answer, for big power, is something like my Flash 2. No removable canopy, solid nose, and one piece all carbon wing. No rudder, just ailerons and elevator. Big square fuse for big LiPos. I climb it vertically as high as I can see it, then do long, vertical dives, pull out and it makes cool whistling noises, swooping overhead but, as you said , 2000 watts isn't that much power. I just maidened a 3.2M Pulsar yesterday, and it has 1100 Watts up front. Climbs at 3100 fpm, too. |

I have a custom built Xplane on the way to cover the need for speed, 4kW in an F5D sized plane. And built by a guy who takes pride in his work!
If RCMRC want to compete with european composite toys they needs to raise their game big time. Having an inferior product, and not having the ethics or quality control to rectify it is a joke. RCMRC read this thread BTW, and asked me to write happy things about them if I bought a discounted fuselage. Why should I be paying for something that shouldve been right in the kit first time? If anyone is interested in buying my wings and tail feathers as spares, they are in as new condition. PM me an offer. |

RCRCM read this forum... and they are prepared to offer discounts in return for a few nice words..... I should be careful what I say here!!
jackosmeister - I would just buy the beautifully crafted slope fuse at the discounted price and forget about the electric version. |

I don't.
The 2 Stregas is for my friends...but... I just bought a E Big Ceres to deal with the Estregas and a Viper to deal with your X-plane Jackos As Yuri, I like to build my own planes as well, not my design but gives me pleasure and take 5KW Andre |

I dont want to give any more money to RCMRC, and Id rather have an all carbon slope soarer I can DS without fear of it exploding at 130mph. And All glass miniblade can take much more speed than that
Nice Viper decones, I was gonna get a flapped double carbon viper, but then I saw the X-plane Thinking I might get one of them wilco/graupner speed cheap F5B gliders and bang my typhoon power system in it. Less than half the price of a typhoon, and can handle 4kw without turning into a 5 peice plane in flight, pity it doesnt have flaps. |

Does anyone using the ARC/KPG 5.2:1 combo know if I have to cut the motor shaft to fit the gearbox? I have the 480 mounting flange.

I still fly my 5 year old Tiger/Wilco(with second self-reinforced fuse). Its a fun LIGHT plane that zips up with 800 watts. I don't think its a plane for more than that as the fuse will break. Its all thin fiberglass and no carbon. If you have anything but a very smooth landing you will either stress crack or completely crack the fuse at the wing or behind the tail especially if you have higher wing loading from a heavy powerplant. The folks who crack it the quickest are the one who "overpower it". Defintely not an Enigma fuse. You can look up the posts on this plane. But its a great plane for what it is. I bought a Icare Falcon last year. Its a nice 2m two piece wing "warmliner". I wanted a transportable composite "thermaler" that I could fly fast sometimes with 1000 watts. I think its fair to call it a $400 Chinese "knockoff". Its actually fairly well made but not compared to something like the $1000 2m Espadita or Sprite Hot. The one weak area on the Falcon is the same very weak front fuse that I see on my E Typoon. And since I have had the opportunity to compare this to some better made planes I immediately reinforced this with fiberglass and i think this plane will last a long time. The companies should not false advertise like RCRCM is doing. Its not easy for most of us to see and hold these planes before we buy. We are all beta testers for this planes. So we all appreciate first hand experiencies with these planes. |

E Typhoon ripping at slope yesterday
By the way yesterday I went flying at Fairmont Ridge. 6-14 mph inland slope. My buddy RC Dad/Kevin flew his E Typoon. He used to fly a Gem when the wind was very light. Of course he has a bunch of planes when the wind is good. He now only flies his E Typhoon in light wind cause he said with some camber it will stay up and fly as good as anything else. And when the wind was blowing that E Typhoon flies very nicely: fast and aerobatic. He has a Park 480 outrunner as a rescue motor that I haven't seen him have to use.
I don't think Kevin has reinforced the front of his plane. But yesterday I went home and unwrapped my unbuilt E Typoon and the front end of that plane is wimpy. I have the slope fuse and its fairly robust but Kevin has advised me that he thinks I will only use the E Fuse as he does. It would be nice if RCRCM beefed up this area. With a light motor you need some extra weight in the front anyway. But as far as I'm concerned its a very nice flying plane and not a dealbreaker at all considering the plane cost to place some fiberglass inside the motor battery compartment myself. Alden |

Not to pig pile on RCMCM but I'm not real impressed with the glider version of this plane either. I have a flying buddy who has one, he has made two landings and broke the fuse cleanly into two pieces on each occasion. I saw the landings and they did not warrant this kind of failure. On the other hand I just started flying slope this year so I thought I should have at least one E glider for those light days and bought a used 2.5 carbon E-Spider. This plane has taken some real abuse and just keeps coming back for more. I'm running a Neu 1509 with a 6.7 to 1 G/B on 4S A123, I don't know how many watts that is but when I start it up people usually take 2 steps back. I've knocked the motor mount loose on a couple of rough landings, dorked a couple of launches (straight into the rocks) and not a even a spider crack (no pun intended). I was looking to step up to a new plane next season and was considering an E-Strega but after reading these posts I'm looking elsewhere. To anyone else looking for a comparable plane, the spider is worth consideration IMO. It's a little more money but still reasonable and it is one tough plane. The performance is good too, with the extra weight of the electrics the things rips it up in heavy wind (40MPH) and it thermals reasonably well in the light stuff (if I can thermal it anyone can). It always seems to be the first plane I take out and the last one I put away at the end of the day. After reading this I may just replace it next year with a prettier one.

Creg,
the Nan Alexx xxl picture I posted above (and here) is the same e-sailplane as the 2.5 Spider. I bought mine from Icare-rc.com in Canada, though mine may not be the same carbon layup.. My motor setup; Neu 1509-1.5D-6.7. ESC is a Phoenix 125. I have been too busy lately to get it in the air.. just have to install the Rx, check C of G, and find a BIG field |
