Welcome to the Champsters pdp!!! I agree there are a lot of great people here. And on the off topic champ thread as well. You should come there and introduce yourself. I am positive you will get a warm welcome from all. Happy Flyin.

Here you go, theDX4E Tx sells for a lot less, and can be found all over if researched. the trims are old fashion. if anyone here, am sure will be able to help you, modify the Electronic trims to manual.

Onboard with the Champ

I mounted an 808 keychain camera on my champ and have been able to get some decent aerial footage. On this day, there was a pheasant wandering around the field where I fly. I tried to do some low passes to get him on camera. I also got some decent aerial views as the sun was setting on the horizon. Once I upgrade from the stock transmitter, I should be able to get some more height and better vids. Hope you enjoy.

how do you guys get your champ flying so steady?!

ok granted, the days when there is little or no wind here is as rare as "hen's teeth" but my champ seems to constantly climb unless barely using any throttle. it also seems to porpoise quite a lot

i have added a "waaay" larger battery (E-flite 120SR 3.7V 500mAh) so that would have added quite a bit of weight. The battery is mounted as far back as possible in the battery "slot"

do you think i need to find the CoG an adjust to suit the original?

I find the trick is to set the power at one throttle setting (I like about 50%) and trim for that setting to maintain level flight.

Your porpoising could be the result of incorrect COG. Sounds to me with the larger battery all the way back that the plane could be tail heavy. Have you checked the COG?

not yet but i will do tonight, its really sunny here today (for a change) still a bit breezy - its around 6mph wind)

i have just read that the CoG on the champ is 28mm from the leading edge of the wing

i will install battery an my trusty 808 to see where it is on mine

i will keep you all informed. thanks!

Mudcow,

Even with a smaller 160/190 size battery, most Champs balance at 28mm with the batt well forward in the slot. In light air when properly balanced the Champ will fly itself and can be manuevered with little nudges on the stick and throttle.

When you find the sweet spot, you'll love it.

Tail heavy causes porposing. Like they all said. Check it. Or do what I do. Land, put the battery further forward untill you find Olthump's sweet spot. LOL

Also, too much much down elevator will cause it to porpoise. If it's going up to a stall and then dropping it's tail heavy or too much up elevator. If it's diving until it picks up speed and then climbs out of it a little you should try adding some up elevator until it maintains altitude at the throttle you want.

Thanks for all the replies guys

with the battery as far forward as possible an the 808 camera attached to the bottom of the battery it flew much better

one other continuing issue is randomly loosing all controls of my champ, but regaining them after a few (scary) seconds

this can happen with my champ near or far. i keep the tx upright an not pointed at the champ as per instruction on here.

its quite scary seeing my poor champ wandering away.....

anyone had anything similar?

oh new batts in tx an plane too

e fly the champ wit ha DX6I for a smoother control. we practice more than others, and it takes some time to just relaxe.

Trim her, and let her glide see how much smooth control you gots, no full power

I have, and haven't had the Champ for long. Stock tx.

I have not had the same issue with my Night Vapor or Ember 2.

I thought it may be going out of range because it has never happened to me close.

Or maybe LVC, because It has really only happened to me when I have the 808 attached, and the Champ is WOT for a min or more while climbing.
