HK401 gyro on raptor 50?

Hey guys, I after a bit of advice.
As a newbie to nitro helis I bought a used raptor 50, and it came with an old CSM ICG400 gyro.
I have in my toolbox a HK401B clone in the shape of a HobbyKing 401
Question is can I trust this $15 gyro in my nitro heli?
Anyone have any experience?

(Oh, and I can't stop the tail wagging on hover with the CSM gyro)

Cheers

I"d get a logictech 2100 before I trusted the HK one. Or buy a good used gyro. They're always in the classifieds.

a .50 size is big enough to do more than put your eye out.

But if your budget doesn't allow....give it a go and make the most of what ya got!

First they are not really known for how well they are build.
Second is that a raptor 50 vibrates a lot more then a average electric heli.
That is not a good combination.

The csm gyro's have a good name so there is a reason your tail is not steady.
Try to sort that out and start with well balanced mainblades and other ways to reduce vibration.
When flying look at the small horizontal tail and if its vibrating at the tips.
Also check if the tail links ect are eazy to move; pop off the link from the servo and feel; there should be no resistance when moving.
I once had to change the tail pitch slider for that reason.
Also when you set up a gyro set it up in rate mode first.
Once you have the tail trimed using the transmitter trim correct the pushrod so you can set the transmitter trim back to 0, if you have a tail mounted servo (on the boom itself) then you can move the whole servo and get the same effect.

once set in rate switching to heading hold will result in a good holding tail.

There is nothing wrong with a CSM 400 if it is setup right, I know a couple of Guy's (myself included) that used them for years and never had a problem, they were a great gyro in their day.

They are old and outdated but it still should hold the tail unless there is something wrong with it.

HK401b on Raptor 50

Hi guys,
I decided not to go down the HK401 route
Instead I've bought an Align GP750.
I here what you're saying about the CSM gyro, and maybe there is a problem elsewhere. Anyhow, we'll see soon.....
