I've wanted one of these ever since I was a 14 yr old kid and seeing the ads in Hot Rod Magazine back in the '70's. Found this one last year on Ebay of all places! It was resting unused in storage the previous ten years and didn't run when I bought it, but had all the parts.

The others bidding on it went way over what I wanted to pay so I never did place a bid. I did ask a lot of questions about it though prior to the bid end. Funny thing is, three weeks after auction end the owner emails me and asks if I still want to see it as the deal fell through. It was only 1 1/2 hrs away so ........

It's one of the infamous kit cars from that era. Designed as a Porsche 917 replica and built on a '69 VW chassis. IMHO this is the best looking VW kit they ever made.

It's currently running with the POS, worn out, stock single port 1.5L engine. On the engine stand right now I have a 1.7L T4 basically stock, only a cam change and a pair of Weber downdraft carbs w/header. I also have a 2.0L engine from a Porsche and hope to have that in in the next year. I'm also working on a Megasquirt 3 EFI unit to control fuel, ignition, and turbo boost on the newer engine.

Modifications I've completed are adding air suspension and an onboard air compressor to control ride height at the flick of a switch (getting into my driveway). Changed over from drum to disk brakes. Changed all the gauges to VDO Cockpit series and added a few for the upcoming engine (boost, cyl. head temp, oil temp), air suspension, and compressor tank pressure.

I'm having a real blast with this car. It makes me feel like I'm in a race just sitting, or should I say laying in the drivers seat. One thing that I didn't expect was all the attention this thing gets. Wish I could make $$$ from all the pictures taken every time it gets driven!

That's a lot of tire for such a itty bitty engine lol. What's the wet weight? Post up some more pics!

Wow Greg, that's pretty dang cool. I bet it's a blast. That new engine will be a real kick. I once saw a turbo Karman Ghia get all four wheels off the ground at a drag strip. Literally launched into the air. Came down hard, almost hit the wall. Point being, these engines are capable of some serious horsepower.

Nice rides, guys!

It's time for me to put the GN away for the season. I'm taking her out for one last fall cruise this afternoon to blow the cobwebs out of the turbo.

Talk about reeling in the years! I had a friend in high school (early '70's)with a bus exactly the same color!

He called it "The Gordo Bus" and we took that everywhere! Lot of parties with it loaded to the max with kids. We even took it hill climbing and "Cruising Main", at least before that got outlawed.

Thanks for the thread and the memories Mike, Happy Halloween!
