LOLOL............well there is a close sound to them both...!! Yeah, I'd sure like one Vic....just have the priorities of life that have to go first.
That 883 is plenty of bike....I've always liked the Sporties.....and I guess there will be parts for many years to come my friend.. |

Whomever says an 883 is a "girls bike" obviously hasen't been launched over the handlebars like I was. I ended up with a torn out shoulder and a purple bruse that ran under my arm to my waist band that lasted a few months. Girls bike my aching shoulder....
I'd say you deserve the Ural, and I hope it falls in place for ya before you're just too flipp'in OLD to enjoy it. I know I can ride the 883 bobber for a while, but a bigger bike like a FatBoy may not work out because of health issues and being small stature. Yeah.....we did ROB alot of scale parts in our day. I hated it because you had to rob the part, install it, then install the new part where you robbed it from.....alot of DOUBLE work. I watch Buffalow Airlines on the Weather Channel quite a bit. They fly DC3's, DC46's, Lockheed Electra's. I worked on P-3B's which were basically electra's set up for anti sub warfare. We worked in the same HARSH winter conditions they do, I can relate being on a flight line and it's -30+ below zero and nothing wants to work or go right. If you're savy with APU's, Buffalow Air would hire you in a heart beat. Funny part is....APU's aren't that complicated yet they have trouble finding qualified people to maintain them. |

Roger that.......883 is plenty fast enough. I remember parting company on my 350 Bighorn dirt bike.......I was living in FL...bout 16 yrs old....out running a guy on a Husky 250....and hit some ruts in a clay road at about 45......briars, sand spurs, and huge spiders woke me up after the dust settled......and the AH on the Husky split.....LOL Healing even then was rough....LOL.
If all goes well, next Feb will be the month to buy a bike.......may get lucky for a change. Very cool.....and man, can I relate...lol Never knew that about APU's. At one time we were swapping parts from helo to helo that about the time the paperwork was done on one.....it'd be on another......seems the feds frown on some of that stuff.....LOL |

My fingers and toes are crossed on the Ural for ya. Jeebus....I only broke 1 finger and smashed the boys pretty good zipping across a field ( I was about 16 as well). There was a nice 6ft long x 3.5ft deep hole x 4ft wide hole in the middle of that big field, and I found it. I stayed on til the gas tank about split me in half, then I was looking at the sky wondering why I was in so much pain. The BIKE didn't have so much as a scratch and I couldn't figure that out either. I figured at least the handle bars would have been bent pretty bad....nope.
Got the rabbits moved to the basement, they'll have a better night tonight. We've had two solid freezes in a row at night. Tomorrow MAY be a good day to shut down and winterize/cover the central A/C unit. Next week, I can finish up cleaning the basement and get ready for the bike by getting the work area ready. I wont start stripping down the bike til November 1st. Also gotta pull batteries and bring them in from the mower and bike after I clean/service the mower and replace the blades. Reliable sources say we're gonna be horrible cold this winter, but snow will not be a big issue. Later guy....back to work. |

question
I never KNEW that planes of the 30s and 40s and 50s had APU ......
did you mean to write about GPU ? instead ? I also watch the BUFFALO show because (not in extreme COLD like that) that was my whole life.....and I dig EVERY thing they go through. Particularly in the years of 1972 through 1976 when I was the Manager/Leader here in the Houston Airport for a Cargo Airline (VERY CLOSE to Buffalo) operating the CANADAIR SWING TAILs which I presume you ALSO know about About 2 or 3 times in a years We loaded 45 horses and/or cattle for transport between Houston and Santa Cruz in Bolivia. Had ALL the problems the show has, then some, BUT OF COURSE NOT WITH THE EXTRME COLD, quite the opposite, we had to deal with EXTREME HEAT which affected the animals as well as the LOADS (heat !) well,.,.,.,.. you know about that too One particular case I remember was when I won the BID against all other bidders to transport an Oil Well from Louisiana to Lybia FOR THE ONLY REASON that the CANADAIR SWING TAIL allowed me to load the tower COMPLETELY done and welded Because I could fit it in the fuse FOR THE SWING TAIL !!!!!!! and I had 6 INCHES to spare for closing the tail......I SWEATED HEAVILY THAT DAY.. Rick...The electra L188 (1950's) has an APU. The Navy P-3 Orion is basically the same aircraft, APU is fitted under the pilot on a P3 and the APU is right rear on the L188. The Navy is now phasing out the P-3 in favor of a specialized 737 fitted with MODERN ASW equipment and is now being tested in MD. Makes sense to use a 737 because turbo fans are more efficient and FASTER than the old turbo prop planes. The L188 had a range of 2200mi, I don't know what the 737 has for a range but it is probibily equal or better in range of the P-3. I say it's about time. The planes I worked on in the 1990's entered service between 1961 and 1969 and actually, that's a pretty decient service life.
Barry....bunnies are now moved in, it's a balmy 74deg down here and the heat is going....they're happy but need cage cleaned tomorrow. |

Rick...that swingtail is AWSOME!!! More progress around here. I took a truck and trailer combo of junk to dump at the brother in law's place. He takes metal to scrap yards, so he got what I had laying around. I look down through the basement and I can see the floor opening up. A lot of crap will be going next week as well. If I had an E-Bay seller account, I could probibily post over 1000 items in one day, and 99% of it would sell quick. We got freezing rain and sleet today....the first frozen percipitation of the fall/winter season happened today. I'm impressed....and COLD. |

Hey Y'all,
I hope everyone is doing well as the seasons change. I have been busy but no RC to report. One post from Vic caught my eye about bunnies. I had a rescued Lion Head that died a few months back, she was my baby and she loved to hang out with me when I was in the basement. I was at a flea market 2 weeks ago and came across a farmer selling pigs, chickens, ducks, ect. He also had 8 week old Lion Head rabbits and I couldn't resist. These are pictures of my new baby "Chevy Girl" Take Care Y'all, Jay |
