what makes that thing go
ploof's Avatar
Went to hangout with the Canadians yesterday. We ended up making the pilgrimage down to the SDR spot which was pretty sweet the air was light with thermals picking up the pace every once in awhile. Mid afternoon the winds picked up, and it was good to go I really liked the spot it was very much along the lines of Eagle minus the sun in your eyes.

I see Keith Thomson was with you. How'd he like SDR after having just been spoilt at Morro Plancho above Girardota..?

Yeah that was Keith flying the Mini Ellipse, he seemed to like flying this spot quite a bit.

Hey Joel

I'm hoping to make Blanco again, I'm not sure just yet if I can definitely make it, or not.

Hi Dieter!

Sam and Thomas are on the road headed home today, but Sam told me Keith's flying was spectacular and something to be seen. I will have to see this for myself so hope he makes it down again.

Say hello to Thomas at Thono-fly for me. See you in a few months?

Best,

Vic

Dieter,
Keith reconized the potencial of SDR, we had max 22mph Wind all day there and now his Rodent needs some TLC and he is in need for an SRTL.

Friday 40+ wind at Eagle
Saturday max 22mph at SDR
Sunday till 3:30pm Eagle with 15-20 wind

Pictures possible later.

Sam is still for another 3-4 hr on the Rd.

Cheers
T

Greetings to all

It has been over 10 years since I last flew on Eagle and this weekend was an amazing way to come back. Many thanks Thomas and Sam. Eagle at 40mph on Friday and SDR on Saturday was better than I could imagine. Sam showed me a side of the Pike planes I had not see before. Joe's Pike Giant was a nice surprise for me in these conditions and is a keeper.

My old slope planes bit the dust this weekend. Maybe there were too many cobwebs inside. My Rodent will fly again although it may not look quite as beautiful as it did before.

I'm hooked again big time and have an itch for a new Moldie. Bring on an SRTL for those 15 to 20mph days. I had a blast with a short flight on Dieter's in Colombia but that is for another thread.

Keith

Hey Keith, welcome to RCGroups! I look forward to your posts. Are you saying the venerable Contender is no more?

Contender

Hi Dieter! The Contender will fly again. I stalled it at Eagle while doing stupid things A couple of cracks in the fuse and a broken rudder is all. This origional woody is a tough one to finish. I built it in 1992... Gawd!

I also Stalled the Rodent at SDR. Stupidity again! I'll post some shots of my old Beauty Queen. It's fast even though she is getting past the Beauty stage. This is my origional Rodent and is the one I was flying when we met years ago at Eagle. When was that??

A New post will be in order praising the virtues of "Colombian Slope Soaring Nirvana" soon I hope. As you know I have too many photos... It looks like Joes Pike Perfect that I had in Colombia is sold. Lots more to go...
