Me and the Winchdoc spent the last couple of days flying Maui in winds that were "only" in the 40's. I guess we missed out on the real wind.

Hi Brian
I would prefer the 40 mph (and warmer) Hawaiin wind.
Cheers

This does not look like 70 mph; km/h possibly? At 70 mph, pilots do not stand this upright this close to the slope edge at Eagle Butte. Sorry to question this, but what did you measure wind speed with?
Whatever the wind speed, looks like lots of manly pilot fun... : )

kaindl windtronic 2.

at the time i got the shot of Sam's barbie brio, it was averaging around 65-67 with gusts over 70.
i should always get a shot of the readout on these days

doesnt readout have to do a lot with vertical vs horiz component??
i try to hit the inflection point of the slope. so apparent strength per angle of body inclination could be reduxed if there was greater vertical component to wind?

i like the kaindl as it isnt as dependant on direction as other wind meters, you only have to get the vertical axis right. the unit can be rotated 360 and it will still measure the same wind the whole time.

Hello Dieter,

It was 70, remember, I have a fairly heavy "wingloading" myself, makes it easy(er) to stand.

More wind on Monday made the DS session quite challenging.... Not a single piece of the Opus' airframe or gear is salvageable. Well worth it though, I predict 250mph at this site in fairly in short order. BTW, someone send me brochures on the latest DS models.

Regards,
Sam

The road to success is paved with failure. Hats off to ya Sam for sticking your neck out and sacrificing a model in the pursuit of finding a decent DS site in the Tri-Cities.

Sounds like it was closer to Kiona, eh Sam. Very promising for the DS'ers amongst the group.

Years ago I smeared a Zipper onto that shallow rocky back-side slope like soft butter onto a piece of rough toast... : )
