Motor suggestions needed for a Wemotec Minifan 480?
I'm sure this has probably been covered in numerous other threads, but after a few unsuccessful searches I figured I would risk asking it again.
I just purchased an RBC Huckebein and Wemotec Minifan 480. I have read Bob P's thread on his Huckebein powered by a Model Motors MV 2020/20. (It's a beautiful plane Bob, and probably the catalyst for my deciding to build one.) I am curious if there are any other suggestions in terms of the best motor and battery pack for this aircraft and fan combination. I know the MV 2020/20 is brushed. Are there any brushless motors that can provide even better performance or duration? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Paul |

I also ordered the Huckebein, the Blohm&Voss and the Yak23 Flora from Rob Bulk. I will try the KONTRONIK Fun 480-37 or the FUN 400-36 with 8-10 cells. First I will try some 1700 SANYO or later if possible the HR-4/5FAUP SANYO. Heiner |

For 10cells you'll be best of with a motor with a kv=3500-4000. Using that you'll be able to use the fairly inexpensive 40A ESC's
My favourite 10cell combo is the Kontronik Fun400-36/Smile40-6-12 ESC. The Hacker B40-11S is very close in performance though its heavier than the fun400 series. (110g vs 125g) Heiner mention the 480-37, if you're staying on 10cells max choose the 400-36 as its lighter and comfortable with the powerlevel (<420W) - and therefore better suited. However if you decide you want more power (450+W) the 480 series has an edge. Get the HR4/5 1950mAh FAUP cells |

I was browsing the ICare site this evening with the intent of buying the 480-37. If I may run 10-12 cells, which controller should I purchase? I see that they also carry the BEAT controller in addition to the SMILE. Any thoughts are well appreciated. Regards! Paul |

I also have a Steve Neill ME P 1101 on order. Based on your collective suggestions in this posting, and Herb's posting in the ME P 1101 threads, it sounds like a 400-36 for the RBC Huckebein and a 480-37 for Steve Neill's Me P 1101 are the appropriate size motors to use.
I have not seen many references to AVEOX motors in these threads. Why is that? Are the KV's not high enough? Thanks everyone for your help! Paul |

Tempest - for up to 400-450W the Fun400 range and hacker B40-S will do, above this you need the larger motor such as fun480 and Hacker B40L. In the <400W range a 40A ESC is sufficient.
Powerwise there is little difference between the 400-36 and 480-37, the diff is only that the 480 will take two more cells with ease. For Steve's ME1101 I'd think the Fun480-42 or the Hacker B40L equivalent on 10CP1700's will haul butt, you'll need a 60A ESC though |

For the higher amperage applications what controller would you suggest? In perusing Kontronik's product line the only BEC enabled controller I see at that amperage is the BEAT 70-6-12. Would you suggest using a non BEC controller? Can I use other manufacturer's controllers (i.e. JETI)? Thanks again and sorry about all of the questions. Paul |

my FUN 400-36 and the FUN 480-37 are running fine with a BEAT 55 opto and also with the 70 A Jeti. But I would suggest use always opto controllers when drawing high A. Heiner |
