Wow Daniel, that was fun to watch. I guess I'll have to add cold fingers to my "no excuse" list.

He posted on the DW thread yesterday, so he is out there somwhere

Here is a review I made of a lighting system by epic rc. They sell ready made kits as well. I was doing some testing for them and thus started from scratch.

Guys, what's the latest thinking on servos for 50cc birds?

I got to get 5 to get the EF flying for next year.

Power HD ?
Hitec 7955TG $93
Hitec 7954SH $80

or something else?

Of the listed, the 7955 is the best IMO. I am really liking the JR 8611a's as well, but they are a bit more expensive unless you get them used. But yeah, I have had 0 issues with my 7955/5955s.

Putting PowerHD 9150's in my 50cc - in the ailerons and elevator, and then 7955 for rudder

Flop,

If you want to go inexpensive, then definitely the PowerHD 9150's all around.

Regarding the 7955tg's and the 7954SH's..

I have used a bunch of the 7955tg's on 50cc aircraft and they work great. At 6v you get 333oz of torque and .15 speed
Given that the main gear train is titanium, they aren't going to wear out.
Average cost is about $88 per servo from the places I've searched them out at.

I purchased 4 of the 7954SH's for my extra 300's ailerons since they were approx $70 per after the tower hobbies coupon.
These are essentially a High voltage durasteel version of the 7955tg.

I read some long term testing/usage in the field on them. The users all reported that they were still as tight as when they were new. No slop!

at 6v, they are 333oz of torque @ .15
At 7.4 they develop 403 oz of torque at .12

Way overkill for a 50cc of course, BUT, I'd still buy them over the 7955tg since you can transfer these right into a 100cc plane and be all set.

Of course the 7955tg's are good. Just depends on how much you wish to spend per servo.

Jholen is doing the PowerHD 9150's in his raven, and I would probably do those for my raven.

I installed the 9150's in the ailerons for the green/black MX-2. No slop and they center very well. NOT the fastest servo, but for $35 per, they are great for the money.

Hope this helps.

All the ones that I had purchased the gear train was tight.

Jholen can chime in on the new ones he received not long ago.
