Druine Turbulent (with plans and video)

Hi, after the success of my Fly Baby Dart design

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1197451

I have had another go at designing a "Cartoon" scale model of the Druine Turbulent. If its another success then plans and a video will come later.

The outline has been played with to give a "From the other end of the sports hall, hiding behind the basketball net" scale Turbulent. Or if you prefer, its loosely based on a Tubulent 3-view with the Smart Dart proportions, areas and angles of incidence.

With this design I have gone for a little less generous wing area/chord to improve the outdoor flying in a wind and also tried to add a more scale fuselage top view. The fake engine cylinders sticking out of the cowl are a must have.

Spec's are similar to the Fly Baby:

RET.
26" Span (Revised to 28" for the protype and the plans)
9.5" chord at the root
2204/14T Turnigy Outrunner from HobbyCity
10A Turnigy Plush ESC
2 x 5gram HXT servos
6100 Spectrum RX
2s 500maH Lipo
8 x 4.3 GWS SF prop
Estimated weight, 8 oz

Here is a preview of the plan and the parts (the bottom sheeting parts and servo tray fell on the floor while I was busy hunting down the camera charger).

A very efficient build indeed! And looks sturdy too.
What's your prefered glue for a build like that?

Cool, I have to get me the motor first, then I will build one of these looking forward for the flight

dJacob7: The build is 6mm depron or FFF so that I don't have to bother with any carbon spars at this size of model, except BBQ skewers on the LE of the wing. I've been using UHU-Por for the construction. Sometimes used wet when more working time is needed and sometimes used as a contact adhesive on other parts.

Edwinzea: Its a shame that the model won't fit in my hand luggage otherwise I could bring it to Switzerland when its done. Work sends me to Basel via Zurich fairly often.

A few more construction photos of progress.

Need some ideas on a paint/colour scheme, any ideas of something between boring registration letters and a fancy tiger scheme would be appreciated (I'm no expert with the paint brush!)

Go ahead man! This is one heck of a build,... I have some 'extra' hardware I figured would not fit a pico stick because it was too heavy. Maybe I will increase the span a bit because I am expecting it to weight like 9-9.5 oz.

m25: Increasing the span is a good idea. When I cut the wing panel out I realised that it looked a bit small. Presumably I messed up the fuz scaling somewhere or forgot to include the huge rudder length in the overall dimensions. I've made a second wing at 28" span to sort out the proportions despite the cartoon scale look. It would easily cope with 30" span but I doubt that my small motor would have enough grunt at that size. More photos soon....

Finished the foam construction tonight so thought I post a couple of photos while I look for a colour scheme. Wing has been enlarged to 28" span.

I have the opposite problem: my power system was too heavy for the picostick and I have to find somewhere else to put it but with similar slow flight characteristics. I am going with 29" span for an AUW of about 280-300g (10-10.5 oz).
