Build Log

Roswell Flyer

Hey all,

Starting a new build..

I thought I would bring back the old Roswell Flyer.
And do it up right.
Mikrokopter style...

I am building the flyer from oak and ash wood.

It will be pretty much a standard flyer.
No frills.

The Bus

Well, I had to figure a way to build my wire bus for the Roswell.

Here is what I came up with.
This is just a prototype.

I will be doing it in black delrin.
It will be thinner too!

It will hold up to 16 wire on top (positive) and bottom. (negative).

I will be getting a nylon wingnut, too!

Of course, I will not be using all the wires.
Just use what I need.

Onto the next step...

Well, I made the 4 arms.
They are made from ash.

Everything is going together, good.
Now, I have to get the electronics together.

Finish and sand all the wood.
I will do it in a tung oil.

Hopefully, I should have the electronics done by next week.

Watch for updates.

Wow this brings back memories. I still have one of those original foam frame in the box. Do you plan to sell your frame, or is this a personal project of yours? I'd love to update mine as well.

I have one of the goofy vertibird things too!
Dragancopter, I believe.

Just finished my landing gear.
Will post pictures tomorrow.

This is kinda just a hobby I do.
Keep watching my blog, I will try to update as I go.

I have to put a Finish on the frame now..
tung oil.
That will probably take a week or so.
Then the motors, electronics, and should
be ready to fly.

Thanks for stopping by.

1st coat of Bush oil.

I will coat it with about 2 more coats, then glue it all together.
After it is glued and coated a few more times, I will proceed onto the electronics.

Stay tuned.....

Here is the final wire harness bus.
It is skinnier then the white one.

I think it should work good.

Still waiting for the Oil finish on the frame to dry.
Will put about 4 coats on.
Maybe more...

Been awhile..

I was going to use a plastic top from a Icee cup for the cover/dome of my quad.

Well, that did not look just quite right, so I decided to make a wooden one.

I made this one from Oak, Ash and the red stripe is Pauduk.

I designed the dome in a 3D program and cut it out with my CNC machine.
The dome is made from 10 layers of wood.

I think it will work just fine..

To be continued....
