A NEW generation Hobie Hawk: SuperHawk
For those who love those flowing lines of the Hobie Hawk as we do then this will be of interest to you.
After over a year in development my colleague Tony J. at Synergy Composites has developed what we are calling "SuperHawk"...
The SuperHawk has a lengthened fuselage and a modified airfoil on 10 foot wings with a 30% larger rudder.
The goal was to improve the performance and handling of the original Hobie Hawk while keeping the beautiful lines that made the Hobie Hawk a legend.
The SuperHawk's fuselage is epoxy-fiberglass and carbon fiber reinforced construction with a larger 3/8" wing rod (stock is 5/16") and then an added 11" in overall length.
The wings and tail feathers are constructed in a very similar way as the originals using ply over foam with routed rib bays. The wings have carbon fiber in the root areas for added strength.
The overall appearence is of a large, sleek and stretched Hobie Hawk.
How does it fly? AWESOME! Instead of going into everything in detail here, please check it out on the website, just go to the SuperHawk page:

Well, sure, a rudder elevator ship is typically not what I would call a sloper compared to todays aileron molded ships, but it does slope and pretty well. That's why it is availible with the RG-15 airfoil.
This ship was not intended to compete against the aerobatic and high speed manuvers of current ships, rather is IS a good sloper meaning it handles well and penetrates well... even without ballest.
The SuperHawk's main goal was trying to hold the lines of the original as closely as possible... and people have been sloping Hawks for years, I just wish there was a better slope close by where I live!
I personally will be thermalling mine with the SD-7037 airfoil 90% of the time....
I should have much better photos soon...
