The Tricopter is born, and the Tricopter dies.

I thought I would post a blog entry - it has been a while.

I recently built a Tricopter with great success. It turned out to be a little ripper. Below are some videos of it, along with some FPV videos. Keep reading under those to hear of her demise...

This video was the first real main flight. I had already maidened it, but now I had dialled it in.

This is just one of the many FPV flights I made on this bird.

SO... What happened to it you ask? Well it crashed, and it crashed because I bought a faulty RX off eBay!!!

You can read about it and see the pictures here...

Well funny you say that!!

I am putting together an ARF kit that will probably retail around $200 USD. All you will need is to put it together and stick you RX on it.

Probably a few weeks away.

They really are great to fly.

Well well well.. :P I was just in the tri/quad forum looking around but I started getting a headache.. Lol I was a little overwhelmed! Let me know how that ARF goes...

By the way, whats the pros/cons with tri or quad?

Well a Quad needs a processor board on the copter to do all of the mixing to the four motors, whereas a Tricopter does not. It uses a standard 120 degree swash setting like any normal Heli using 3 gyros for the motors and 1 for the YAW.

So no need for anything special other than a computer radio capable of 120 Heli programming.

Hmmm... That does make a huge difference lol. Would a DX6i work for a tricopter?

The list of parts reads a bit like this...

Ply Main Frame
Timber Arms (I like Carbon, and can be used at customers choice)
3 X 750 KV motors
3 X Gyros
3 X ESC
1 Gyro to Tail (Yaw is controlled by tilt)
1 X Tilt Assembly for rear Motor
1 X BEC
Bit and pieces... cable ties, screws and bolts etc.

Okay... So is it basically this tricopter here? I'm very interested in a kit from you... I think it'd be a lot easier than just trying to wing it by myself.
