How difficult would it be to put the fan inside the fuselage?
Air intake and thrust tube would be an obvious challenge.
Just a random thought.

there is no way to put a 5" fan inside the fuse this plane is set up to have the motor mounted on the mount section at the rear of the plane. stock they are set up for a 120 glow motor and prop.

What is the O.D. of the shroud? my nacell fits a dynamax ...@127 mm i think. i might be able to make a different piece for the inlet ring mold that would fit ,

What servos are you guys using in the rear of this plane for elevators and rudders?

Watt me worry?

I am using Futaba S9650 Digital Mini Servo with two ball bearings for the elevator servos...........63 oz-in (4.5 kg/cm) @ 6.0V each.

Bob here you go:

I have small Jr MN-48 servos on rudder..........48 oz/in @ 4.8V
Spektrum DS821 on flaps. 72 oz/in @ 4.8v, 88 oz/in @6v
Tower TS-150 digital metal gear on ailerons......... 193 oz-in @ 6 volts

I decided to try a different tack on the nacalle mount. The outside of the nacalle matches in size a piece of Sch. 40 6" pipe, so I used that as an inside mould for a fiberglass base. So far the plane fully equipped except for power system and batteries is 10.95#. Ailerons, flaps, elevator( 2 servo), Robart retracts with 1/2" struts, brakes etc. The nacalle with fan and motor and mount is 2.90#. Using a Scorpion/ Dynamax conversion probably on 12S XPS 35c batteries and CC HV 110 esc.

It looks great John, but I worry that there might not be enough to hold on the plane? These thing really pull And to think it's only on there with a couple of screws in the center would make me worry about torsional stress in flight?

I plan on bolting it down through the engine mount block from the underside. I plan on filling the wedge space below the cylinder of the nacelle with a nice fillet, so it will have about 12sq. in of bearing area to bolt through. I plan on running a tube or two through the fillet to thread the motor wires from the ESC in the fuse back to the motor to keep them mostly hidden. The fiberglass mount so far would hold up to a 120 two stroke being bolted to it and run, so all together it appears to be a strong mount with a more elegant shape, maybe.

John great idea ...im might try something like that ..also but an external doubler on the side of the fuse back there by the motor mount. Racer 1 has seen cracks back there .when i get home from Hawai'i i'll post pics .
