Ryan was telling me that he likes the Reaper for a FPV because he now has long range radio and can cover more area int the same amount of time than with the trainer type FPV planes.
We also had a flyer fly into a fence wide open throttle with his Grim Reaper this week. The fence was about 200 feet long and the whole thing shock with the force of the impact and the plane bounced at least 10 feet and made a horrible sound. The flyer is a little on the new side and was sure his plane was destroyed. The scary part is he had landed inside the property of a known RC hater who is quick to call the police even though he has soccer games around his house most of the summer nights and weekends. Luckily the property owner didn't answer the door and the plane was quickly retrieved. Even with the WOT impact the plane only suffered a couple of foam tears. The fiberglass spars were intact and the radio was protected except for his ESC which is still intact but stopped working. It speaks well for the plane that can survive that kind of abuse. The flyer worked glue into the tears and taped it in place while it cured and was flying the plane the next day. Lee . |

I took 2 inches from each wing out of mine. I like the way it flies. I was afraid if I took more I would need to add lead to the nose. Couldn't tell you about the speed:glide ratio. All I know if it flies great. I just added some nav lights so soon I'll be posting some night FPV action.

Anyone can tell me what happened in this video? I crashed 2 times this afternoon and don't know why
It was quite windy and looks like the wind turned over the plane. http://www.vimeo.com/14304047 |

I know in the other video you had some collisions with a tree and such. Check your servos and make sure you didn't strip a gear and double check the CG. It might be a snap roll which happens when the CG is a little to far back and you have too much movement in the elevons. It might also be the push rods flexing if they aren't secured in the middle. The fact that it rotated a couple of times and didn't pull out would suggest the set up problems I described.

Lee, I've check everything twice and found nothing. I just came back from my after dinner flight and flew 6 packs without any problem... Today the GR went through maybe 15 packs total and the only time I had problems where these 2 events shown in my video....
After each crash I've look at the Spektrum receiver/satellite (AR6200) to make sure no failsafe were involved and the LEDs were not blinking. I'm kind of clueless since this plane is rock steady in the air...maybe it was too windy? Wind was blowing maybe 20-30 mph. Each time it happened I was facing the wind and making a turn in the direction of the wind. Anyways, I'll keep an eye on it. Good thing this plane and the GoPro's polycarbonate casing are indestructible (knock on wood for now) . |

This is a rock solid steady plane designed for AP/FPV. I wish you were close by that I could fly it and check it out. Most of the problems we see are easily fixed in seconds and usually have to do with the things previously mentioned. GRs are becoming a regular in our combat sessions even carrying cameras at times.
Which servos are you using? I have seen some weak servos at times that just aren't strong enough for a 2 lb plane. |

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...31&postcount=7 The advantage of a plane like this is how much abuse it can take. Most flyers first comment on how far it will glide with the power off then they comment on how tough it is. |

Here's my last video with the GR. Above the Plains of Abraham in my hometown.

That's some pretty country you live in. we are in the desert and everything but the irrigated sod farm here goes gray and brown this time of year. Looks like it is flying good! |

I have received some advice that I thought to pass along to help decrease the shakiness of the video.
If you look at many of the APV videos you will see that it looks like flyers are often making a lot of small flying adjustments in flight. This is an caused by the exaggerated illusion of small movements in the plane with an attached fixed camera. A small direction change in the plane makes a huge sweep of the direction of the camera. First make sure the plane is trimmed so that it flies straight and level with hands off so you won't need to make many corrections. Simply fine trimming the plane will often smooth out your video. Second, fly with thumb and finger on the right stick not just thumb. When flyers shoot video while just flying with the thumb on the stick there is a jerky look to the video, especially on a plane as powerful and as instantly responsive as the Grim Reaper. When you pinch the right stick on the transmitter it smooths out some of the jerky look to the video because it forces you to use slower stick inputs and helps prevent the bumping the stick which can be seen on the video. Third is fly for the camera. Think smooth flat bombing runs and long smooth turns and aim the plane at what you want people to see and let the plane have some flat and level flight time traveling towards the target. I was looking at a video over a waterway in Norway and saw just a glimpse of a boat dock that I would have liked to see more of but it was only on the video for a second or two as the plane was in a turn. I'm sure if the pilot knew I had interest he could have given me a better look. Fourth, It is always fun to see the pilot flying. Do some low strafing run passes. People notice if you put yourself in the video and show where you are standing to shoot the video. |
