I'm pretty sure this is just the Art-Tech F-18 now available in two new paint schemes. Originally found in this thread.

The commemorative scheme dates back to the first F/A-18 prototype from 1978.

This book has some pics of the prototype.

I would have also liked to have seen this scheme.

I'm not sure who makes this one. I've seen some FMS 64mm F-18 airframes on ebay, but I can't tell if this is the same. I have an Art-Tech F-18 and the intakes on mine don't protrude out on the plane's belly like this one. Look at it's side profile. Also the canopy seems different. I can't say for sure without seeing it's landing gear though. Starmax never made a 64mm C version.

Anyway, I don't see a problem with 64mm jets as long as there's enough room for a 4s pack. My Art-Tech makes 650 watts, has almost unlimited vertical, and goes probably 90mph. I just wish there were more 64mm jets with retracts.

The intakes look exactly the same based on this pic of the Art Tech and the front view of the Airfield on the Nitroplanes site.

Here's the FMS one: http://rc-castle.com/shop/product_in...oducts_id=1562
It has the same missile package as the "Airfield" F-18. Also, those fins on either side of the turtle deck are plastic on my Art-Tech. The ones seen here look like foam. Notice how the ducting hangs lower than the bottom of the jet.

back to what bhatch21 said about whats the big deal with having a 64mm edf jet. In my opinion 64mm jets are typically lower quality cuz there small and dont need to be made of high quality material. But dont think that all 64mm edf jets out there are crap. Its just 70mm jets are typically all around better than 64mm jets.

Hmmm...according to the Art Tech site theirs is bigger than this new Airfield one.

_________Length_____Wingspan
Art Tech:__40.6in_____27in
Airfield:____37.8in_____26.4in

What are the FMS specs?

I wish there was more info on this plane, my art tech has been through the ringer and has been retired so I took a leap of faith and picked up a kit version.... I wonder if this thing has landing gear and what the lipo bay looks like.

pretty sure the jet has landing gear, but just like bended paper clips with wheels on the end. On the lipo bay not really sure but i bet you could make it bigger for a bigger battery. hope you show us some pics on your jet

I agree that a larger 70mm at this price point would have been great, and retracts would have iced the cake. However, I must admit that I love my Starmax 64mm F-18 and it has been the best flying plane to date for me (other was a PZ P-51). My PZ P51 flew well but deteriorated over time and I could never really get it back to how it flew when it was new, despite servo and power upgrades, so it's now retired. Funny though that one of the things I really liked about my PZ was its larger size (compared to my 64mm Starmax F-18).

That is why I am now completing the build on my new Starmax 90mm F-18 (with retracts). I thought about the 70mm version because they are larger but decided that they still weren't large enough; I just got tired of my diminutive planes out at the field compared to the "average" 4ft long models being flown. That is why the size of the 90mm, and its retracts, were the two compelling factors for getting this vastly larger plane (and it is a vast difference at 5ft long, lol), not to mention that bigger planes also fly better and are easier to see.

I will still fly my 64mm F-18 because it flies so well but from here on out I am only looking at oversized foamies; next on my list is the P-51 with retracts! At a 57" wingspan and 49" long it's almost as large as my 90mm F-18"!
