Venom 1800 nicd wont charge

I have a venom 1800mah NiCD with a patriot r/c 800 ma wall charger. As soon as i plug the battery in the red light goes off and on and then just stays off. Sometimes im able to keep it on for 5 or 10 mins but thats it. The battery and charger both get hot really quick but if i try to start my tmaxx the ez start kicks over for about 1 1/2 seconds and then stops and the lights dim. Then i cant get any turnovers. I am very new to the r/c hobby and would really appreciate some help.

What Brand of charger are you using? post a link or a model number. How old is the battery? If it is an 1800 mAh battery an 800 mAh charger wont charge it fully

Heat is never a good thing for any electronics. It should have some type of thermal protection to stop it from frying. Have you tries charging another battery? If you have a DC volt meter you could see if there are volts during the charge cycle. You could have a bad pack too.

Didnt really think aobut that lol. im new to r/c and understand the concepts of most of it but refreshing it all seems to be the biggest challenge. Would it be easier and cheaper to just get a pull starter or is it really worth it in the long term to keep fiddling with the setup i have?

Pull starters are Ok but they fail too. Does this T Maxx use the battery pack for the on-board electric starting system? You should be able to pick up a cheaper NiCad or NMih battery pack cheap.

Does it have a shaft that goes in the back of the motor. If it does If you can take the shaft put it in a Battery operated drill and your done.

Got the pull starter today.Yes more work but it was nice to drive it. One more question. I've been running 20% nitro in it and picked up some new 33% nitro. Are there any changes im going to have to make other than richening the mix?

Yes! What motor are you running? Make sure it can handle it or you might be putting a piston and sleeve in the engine.
