I just built this model using 1.3# 6 mm EPP foam. It turned out really flimsy and would have been better using 1.9# 9 mm foam but the 6mm is all I had on hand. It weighs 185 grams including 2s battery. I flew it today for the first time out in front of the house and gave the neighbor kids a thrill. It flies great.

I wish my kid would get into flying the one I built for him but alas it seems RC can't hold a candle to Xbox for a 12 year old. On a plus side that is some great flying from your son there Turbo.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I just wanted to drop by and say thank you to Spitfire for the plan. I am a beginner 450 size heli flyer, and have no experience with planes at all other than computer sims. I managed to build this sbach with KF stepped airfoil and have successfully maidened her!!!

Thank you!!!

THANK YOU FOR THE PLANS! I'm not a super-ninja 3D guy, but this is my FAVORITE 3D plane. It's fantastic flying, and great looking.

I don't remember the exact size (I'm not at home right now) but I built a 90% version out of 6mm depron to run off 850mAh 3s lipos with a Turnigy 3020 1200kv and a GWS 8x4.7 prop, and a 70% version out of 3mm depron to run off a 500mAh 2s lipos and a Turnigy Park 250 1680kv and the same GWS 8x4.7 prop. The smaller one is 120 grams without a battery. I THINK it bigger one is around 240 grams, but I don't remember for sure. The smaller one isn't super strong with the 3mm depron, the wings want to crack when I yank it around in spite of the carbon spar, but MAN do they both fly nice. They're rocketships and seem to track really true.

Love the plane and plans. Thank you.

Firstly, thanks for the very good plans. Decided to scale the plans down to 24" as I wanted to use some smaller 300-500 mAh 2s packs. Built from 6mm depron style foam obtained here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1807601680...84.m1497.l2649 Not bad for 3.50 per sheet with free 24 hr delivery. Even gave me the hour slot that they would deliver it!
Motor is a 1826-10 2800kv from Giant Shark, 6x 3 GWS prop, 6amp plush esc Maidened on a 300 mAh 2 cell pack and finished on a 2s Zippy 500 mAh.
Need to add a bit more colour, perhaps some chequers underneath and strips/lightning bolts on top.
Here's the video
Sbach profile foam radio control plane (4 min 31 sec)

Just a few clicks of up trim had her flying straight and true but I think the pack could still come back some to improve knife edge and hovering.
