Help I dont know what to fix?

My son has a new focus fm transmitter and 555 receiver. Last weekend he lost control of the aircraft and it crashed head on in to a paved parking lot.

The aircraft survived well (its a UNICORN) but the reciever had came out of the fuselage. The battery back looked like it took the brunt of the crash and was completely destroyed.

Upon getting it home I tried to bench test the receiver and ESC with a fresh battery. Nothing.

I removed the ESC and used a receiver battery to test the ailerons only.Nothing.

I took apart the receiver to make sure the antenna was still connected. It looks alright and all the electrical components look good. Crystal is seated well.

At this point I can tell if I need a whole new receiver or a crystal. Is there any way to test a crystal to see if its good?
I dont have another receiver to try it in.

Other than buying a new crystal, I don't believe there is a way. I would be sure to take the switch harness out of the circuit. they can be damaged. Other than that, I'd send it in for a check. It's not worth losing another plane in my opinion. A new receiver is only about 60 dollars. I have no idea what the charges would be for a repair. Might be as much as a new one.

I thought so. I see that the crystal is rather fragile so I will try that first. If not then I will have a crystal for the next receiver I guess.

Hitec normally repairs them free. I just had a 555 crystal die in a crash and they repaired it free.

Send it to Hitec - your crystal may be the issue, but it is much more likely the filter (I think this is one of the internal crystals) will very likely be broken.

Hitec service is awesome and fast. I have never been charged - even when I say "I crashed this my fault" They send it back with a $0.00 charge. They are awesome.

Here is the form to fill out and send:

Well I thought it was alright.....

I bench tested it again last night and I am experiencing some bad glitching.

Heres the setup:

S400 with 3 capacitors soldered
Jeti 180
Hitec Focus FM Ch 19
Hitec 555 Micro receiver Ch 19.

I tore it apart rerouted the antenna and repositioned receiver. Antenna doesnt route over itself. Still alot of glitching when the motor is run up. Sometimes the motor sometimes doesnt want to shut off or is slow to turn off when throttle is cut.

One thing I do want to note is that the antenna does run rather close to the motor. Can this affect it even though the motor has caps?

Could it be a bad receiver still or maybe the ESC?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Your receiver is still broken - it is not worth risking. Hitec will fix it - send it in....
