Kevin, the bearing sticks out on the Power 25 I have as well. Also the holes at the ends of the X mount are different than the Turnigys.

Cheers, Duane p.s. Another thing you might notice when changing from the Turnigy to the E-Flite motor is that the bolt holes on the "X" mount are almost, but not quite, in the same locations. So the motors are not really interchangeable using the same holes. You can almost do it, but only by hogging out the holes in the mount, or angling the bolts, or a little of each. It's really easier in the long run to just fill the original holes and re-drill. |

Throttle at launch?
I have a question about the rules. I did not see this specified. On launching at the beginning of the race, do we launch with the motors running at full throttle or do we have to wait to get the flag before we advance our throttle?
Also, we the starts be staggered? ie: lane 1 and 3 go and then lane 2 and 4. Or will we all go at once? |

I made a printout of the rules from the NMPRA site and on page 5 of that printout, under "III. Race Operation", paragraph C describes the start procedure. There is no specific mention of whether a pilot's caller is permitted to hold the airplane while the pilot throttles up, then release the airplane when the starter signals the launch. So therefore I would say it's OK. Paragraph D, immediately below that, specifies the 1-3, 2-4 start procedure that we are familiar with. I hope this helps. Cheers, Duane |

The rules can be found here:
http://www.nmpra.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2379 As Duane mentioned, see section III, paragraph C for start and paragraph D for takeoff order. The answer is 'Yes' for staggered start. Lanes 1, 3 then 2, 4 We have been allowing the Caller to hold the model prior to the start flag being dropped. The pilot advances throttle about 5 seconds prior and then Caller gives a gentle push. If you like, Pilots can take off unassisted and have the motor off until the flag is dropped and then throttle up. IMHO, this leads to more torque problems and unsuccessful takeoffs. The pilot tends to jam the throttle ahead full as the excitement of the start flag takes over.... Randy |

I think a full throttle release, like in all the other classes, would work out better. The CD should signal when its time for full throttle and then have the flags drop and caller release.

At the three races we have held in Texas the only people that had straight take-offs were the ones who advanced the throttle rather slowly - not full throttle. Read Pete Bergstrom's post on this. He knows what he's talking about. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but it's much harder. This is not a nitro event and we don't have to do everything like the greasers( no offense intended).

We were talking about starts for 2 pole racing out here and debating a flying start from a count down to avoid this issue or maybe just ROG launch by the caller at angle to the pylon and go for it. For safety line reasons, our runway is too close to pits and pilots for a straight shot to pylon #1. The first turn would have everyone over the parking lot We'll have some experimenting to do for local conditions. We use to do flyings starts back in the slope racing days and they do it in Giant Scale racing but I don't know if it will be easier or harder for new pylon competitors.
