Crib -- RET bullseye reverse delta with NO DIHEDRAL with videos
Got a new plane done today. Attached are photos and the short maiden flight. I did not experience a torque roll on the hand launch. Nor did I intend to roll left. I was actually giving right rudder. This is an RET plane. I have done a couple of other bullseye type of which one is one of my goto favoriteplanes. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1051014 In fact, this is just turned around.
Flies well after getting some things sorted with the linkages and prop staying on well with the goofy built in prop saver.. Poor video but nice and floaty for no dihedral and a hole in the middle of the wing...
16"WS 2204-14 motor simple 10a esc 2 5g servos vampower rx rhino 460's Foam core 20x30 board from Hobby Lobby 168 with no bat and 220g with 900mAh. 5.9oz and 7.75oz AUW. I am flying with a SF 9x4.7 which also improves the low end gruntiness on this 2204-14 motor

Wolf , you need to wait till the wind calms down so you can do some glide , power on and off testing ... May be a motor thrust line problem ... maybe that tall rudder is acting like an aileron .. only way to figure it out is a systematic analysis in calm air ... How did the glide tests go ??? You Did do the glide tests huh???

Glide is fine. I am beginning to think it may be a prop issue as this apc prop just doesn't fit well. There may be some slight right thrust issues. Glide is fine, for a bullseye. As you know, they have to be on the wing. I will report back findings on a 7035 prop instead of the apc 8x4. I am sure the 7035 will have serious not enough umph issues but it shouldn't roll as it won't be going fast enough...

No wind tunnel for this plane. It flies great. After breaking off the vert stab at least three times, I finally looked the whole thing over. The bands on the prop saver were getting weak from previous use and allowed for the inside of the prop to get wallowed out and allowing for the prop to tilt on the saver which I think was acting kinda like uncontrolled thrust vectoring. I think as I would would start a rudder skid the prop would tilt interrupting the proper travel and then it would bounce back on the saver. The motor mount screws were such that I didn't have to take off the prop when moving from another plane. Anyway I put on the 7035 to be sure. It lacks thrust like I thought it would, but there is no issue with the plane's design. When I get a chance to fly with 7060 or a GWS 8040 I will check to see if I need a tad more right thrust. I took a video at the end of the battery so it was getting rather soft already. dekan said it looked like a baby crib so a crib is what I called the video. Don't have a name. It manages high alpha and slow a little better than the bulleye delta (the origninal just turned around) which was what I was hoping for Inside loops are really tight. Didn't try an outside yet. Low and slow will be improved with a decent prop. We will see how it manages with a real maiden next time I get time which may be a week before I can wring it out.

I also removed a little fin area in front of the control surface. I had added some extra in the design phase to help support the t-tail which I later didn't take the time to finish.

Decided I might want this to also ROG so added removable front wheels and a removable tail wheel as well as a silly little canopy.

Dritch, I would say the hole. I hae made four planes based on GPW's bullseye from a few years ago which was a circle. I have a delta I fly a bunch (first post link), which likes the wind. I wanted something with a little less sweep to increase the floaty feeling missed by the nose of a delta. Although very preliminary, this plane looks like it will fit that bill. I have done the battery on top and on the bottom in these planes so I don't know that the vertical cg plays much of a factor. The hole does. Glen did 1/3 the size of the wing. This one is smaller as I also thought I could work up to the 1/3 which would also diminish the floaty so I was hoping smaller would be okay. I would like sometime to do this in a normal config like in a flat smart dart. I like to be able to fly upside down with RET and this should allow for easier inverted flight.

Slightly CoNfUsEd? (not your fault i'm alway's on the line)
Is the hole 1/3rd the area of the wing? The verticle cg or lack needed of sounds interesting. Wheels a turning. SORRY: Read the linked thread. NICE. So maybe 1/4 wing area? |

I believe that somewhere between 25% and 33% will fit many low aspect ratio planes. There is no need for dihedral in the planes. I like the way they fly better and store easier. I will try to get some better video to show off how a less than average pilot can put these around easily because the second video really doesn't due it justice as it was underpropped and the battery was nearly gone. I don't think the canopy or the LG will affect flying, but of course haven't tried them yet either. I don't have formal plans, but I did keep my paper templates that I could scan and post if there was any interest. Although, not many have been thrilled with my unusual designs. I actually kinda like them. Not many have ever called me a conventional thinker.

Actually the hole created a "joined wing"... especially when there was an angular difference between the front and the back , like on a regular plane ...

Thanks Glen.
I left out the joined wing stuff info, because some of the later bulleye's didn't all seem to have that much of a difference and I don't really either. Don't know what I am missing, because I didn't try other using a KF'ish doubler that does sorta kinda do that, but not really. TJ |
