O Alan if you it was this spring or last summer I'd drive out there.
It sure is nice to know about these carbon fiber landing gears.
I am just as hard on landing gears as I am props.
I've flatten many a gear in my day.
And probally a few more before I go to my grave.
I did have a carbon fiber gear on my sig SE. It made for some nice bounce an goes, till she delaminated

Sounds great Alan. Gotta make those "once-in-a-lifetime" deals special.

We have a lot of big planes that fly at our field - all sizes. Most of the bigger planes are on CF gear. We don't see this problem normally. I replaced the two-piece fiberglass on my YAK with CF V1 from Graph Tech. It did delaminate but they replaced it with their V2 gear. The cartwheel was the V2 gear. I think it as two or three years I flew it at our field with no problems.

The AUW for this Edge is 18.5lbs (I weighed it this morning). The gear they are using looks pretty thin for that weight and at the landing gear block, it looks like the V1 Graph Tech used to make.

I don't think CF gear is bad, it just needs to be well-made an appropriate for the plane. JMHO.

Update - 3dhs has already entered an order for a new main gear so that is good. Best response I have had from them so far.

Good to hear. I think its like anything else, could just been a bad mold maybe. You got me curious, I got to weight mine tonight, I have not done it yet. <Crap... my digital only goes to 5000g or little over 11 lbs>

I had to weigh my 70" slick in two separate pieces... for one thing it was a lot easier to manage that way. A six foot wingspan in the kitchen is hard to manage but you need a way to get it off the ground. I put the scale on the corner of the table so there was room for the landing gear and tail to clear easily.

Mine is in pieces again so it was easy. Do you have a fish scale?
Bathroom scales may be close enough.

I don't think it is the mold. I think it is the material, layup, and finally, those two holes they drilled for the gratuitous cuffs. I don't think it is coincidence that it broke at the holes. I hope the new one does not have the holes.

This reminds me of my arm. I broke, not fractured, my left humerus and had a plate and screws put in for repair. Several years later, my left shoulder was still hurting from the same accident and I went to the Dr. I asked about removing the plate and screws. He said if I was still participating in active sports and fell, it would probably break at the top or bottom of the plate or where the screws were. I decided to have the plate and screws removed.

I may just use silicone to put them on next time.

I just put the scale on the floor and stand the plane up on its nose, easy.

I had to weigh the landing hear, wheel pants, wings, SFGs, cowl, and fuse.

On the original twist 40 I had to drill two holes in the gear to make a Kevlar string strut
Because they bent out of shape with touch and goes

Once I dive bombed into powder snow and broke off half of the gear

On my twist 60 I put on the twist 150 gear including wheel covers

If the plane is 16-18 lbs... that would mean the wings would have to be over 5 lbs.... not sure.

I have a WII with a scale, not dragging the plane up to the living room.

Most I do are like that... up to 11 lbs anyway
