Engine: 30cc rec.

I've been flying everyday for about a year now practicing 3D and IMAC with my QQ Yak(for how long that lasted), profiles and my Fliton Extra 330. Im no pro, but I think im ready to start going to compititions so I can progress as a pilot, both in RC and fullscale. I've been offered full-scale aerobatic instruction and can't pass it up and flyign IMAC would certainly help sence IAC and IMAC fly the exact same maneuvers.

I've been practicing the IMAC Basic and Sportsman sequences and plan on attending LMAC's IMAC this year. So I need somethign to compete with sence my Extra is a bit small.

This will be my first gas plane, as well.

Check it out!

How about a DLE 30cc for power?

The DLE 0 is what is recomended, but looking closely at the specs it only produces 17-18lbs of thrust. Not much for an 11lbs 3D plane. The DLE weights about 2.5lbs with muffler and ignition.

btu I did find a cheaper 42cc MT engine that is 3.7lbs with muffler and ign. It produces 21lbs of thrust swingign the same 20x8 prop, which is more like it!

Would that extra pound on the nose be too much?

Also, im not sure of the torque. How much torque do I need for a 30cc? 150oz, 200oz??

Just ordered 30% Sbach and DLE-55 from larry @ chiefaircraft, good combo price. but I am going to be using my DA-50 on it. Planning on getting a Pilot-RC or TOC- Thunder Tiger 30% Yak for the DLE. I am thinking about doing a build thread on the Sbach.

Please let me know if you do!

I might still get one of these later and would love a build thread refrence, or atleast a good flight report.

I'll probably crash the Edge before next season (I like my 3D low and hard) and the 30% would be a great replacment airframe for the DA50 and servos from the Edge!

Does it have a pipe tunnel? I am looking for an airframe for my Syssa 30 with a ES composites pipe.

It doesnt have a place for a pipe, but its already cut for canister mufflers, so it probably wouldn't be hard to mod it to make a pipe fit.

Aack - that Q was meant for dduplice..

That's what I get for trying to cram a weeks work (plus important RC Internet stuff!) all in the day before I leave for vacation

Never built a 30CC 3D plane, are digital servos necessary? I have plenty of warbirds this size, plain old HS645MG's work fine.

I havent either, but I do know that digitals are not nessisary, but MGs are. As long as your servo makes atleast the recomended torque and is fast enough for 3D because to fly 3D well, your servo needs to go from one extreme end point of throw to the other very quickly. And digitals I understand make the torque nessisary emediatly and hold the control surface there exactly much better than a standard servo, atleast thats my understanding.

For a 30cc sized 3D plane you need about 150oz of torque from your servo.

LOL - except for use with small electric foamies, I don't own anything but MG servos anymore.

150oz puts me one level up from 645MG's (985MG..), or HD1501's if I stay analog. Could always run DS120M's if I wanted digital.
