Another approach is to use to GWS 10x3.8 prop (I asked a store and they have it). That should give ~600g (1.2 thrust to weight ratio). I think that should work with standard SE.

The problem with 10x3.8 prop is it has really a high amperage draw. That isn't good with a 1000mAh battery. The expected full-throttle time is ~4 minutes (It's 10 minutes with 8x3.8 prop).

I prefer 8x3.8 prop on 10x3.8 prop to have almost double flying time. But if 8x3.8 won't work well, I can get the 10x3.8 prop.

My previous calculations were made by scaling the plane up to my foam board size, that why it was too heavy. I've redone my calculations using 20" x 30" standard size and this is the result:
The weight is ~500g. Wing loading is ~13 g/dm2 (4.3 oz/ft2). Thrust to weight ratio is 0.72.

If I scaled the plane 75%, the weight is ~370g. The wing loading is 17 g/dm2 (5.6 oz/ft2). Thrust to weight ratio is 1.

What is better for my situation?
If you are now building a Super Easy , why don't we move this discussion to the SE thread :

Do you no longer have a 9 inch prop ?

If possible , get a 3S battery .

EZFly 130%

Hi All,

I'm wondering how to make the center fuselage piece of the EZFly if scaled to 130%. Since it would be longer than a $Tree foamboard.

130% gives about a 40" span.

Thanks,
Jim

For the center fuselage piece : butt join two sheets of DTF , then trace/cut-out the center fuselage piece so the butt joint will be hidden under the two nose doubler pieces .

Or...

Is your idea to use the standard fuselage and just put a longer wing on it? Like a 20" center section with 2 10" tips. I've seen some notes here of the EzFly at about 9 oz with a 220 sqin wing - .04 oz/sqin. I have a HobbyKing hexTronik 24gm 1300kv on order. I would use a 2s, 1300 mah battery - 80 gm. Also a couple 3mm x 400mm carbon tubes for the wing spar.

On the other hand if a light wing loading is the goal, the Blu Sail I built but not flown yet (the field I use is knee-high in weeds and chiggers) weighs in at 19.7 oz with a 560 sqin wing area - .04 oz/sqin. I've made a few good gliding tests in my small back yard to check the balance.

Which would you recommend trying first? I really want to get a successful flight. My wife is expressing doubts.

Thanks very much for all of your help.
