Question

Antenna replacement


I have a 2 remote controls for 2 RC cars and both transmitter antenna are broken.. is their a DIY way to replace it? or I need to buy a new controller?

if DIY is possible what are the things to consider?

the RC are "New Bright" RC cars

You could use any solid metal wire (for example a clothe hanger) as a substitute and it will work the same. Just measure the right length (about 2.5 ft should do it) and make sure it is connected to the base of the antenna.

how about if the antenna is the flexible thing wire..?

Well I don't know about the coat hanger trick it works for the old TV sets but ideally the antenna is tuned to the specific frequency. I would try to replace it with an original.

They are cheap 2 should set you back less then $20.00

If you are bent on making one Look here http://forums.qrz.com/index.php This is an Ham radio forum Look in the antenna page Some of the people know more about making antenna's then I could ever know. I think a coaxial cable with the correct length would do it. You just need the inside wire not the whole black cable.

no i was busy doing things.. plus its snowing and there's flood.. CAR doesn't like water.. heheh

btw, the old antenna is a screw type (it has thread) .. and i was able to find an antenna in radioshack but the thing is it has a hole with a screw and washer.. can i just solder it in??

Of course, soldering a connection would be better (better coductivity) than one that is snap-fitted or screwed on.
