It's always good to be in the PNW! (maybe I need to visit Seattle in January to see what that is like!)

We have (3) seasons here July, August and winter.

Not relay July , August are the hot months of the year. from then it's the rainy season, until the end of November then it starts to get cold, the last two weeks in December and the first two weeks in January it get to freezing and below, then the last to weeks of February it gets relay pretty, then it 's the rainy season again, with wind, would not have it any other way.

Seasons are a good thing! I've been told that it has been known to snow in the South Sound? Not a bad thing!

The snow is not a bad thing, it's the people that don't now how to drive in it that makes it bad, you have to slow down, I drive a jeep all year round, I do 60+ on the freeway in good weather and 30 in the snow, you can go faster but you can't stop. I love the snow, so doe's my jeep.

They are looking good, the sails, are you going to rig them as gaffels ?

I would have to know what gaffels wheir before I could answer that.

I think gaffles are the top sails between the main sail and the mast, sort of a V with a yard arm of it's own?

Gaffles? "Gaff"? Spar at the top of a gaff rigged sail? Looks like the right rig for this particular ship.

re: snow driving, speed is everything.

I was wondering about Gaffels too, it seems from Wikipedia that a Gaffel is a fork. I guess it is easy to see how we ended up with a Gaffel becoming a Gaff; basically a spar with a forked end.

Actually, I believe "Gaffel" is the German word for Gaff.

Gaff, Gaffe, gaff's, Wow I'm glad we go that cleared up, so they would mount way up here.

I've only seen one pic of the Wawona in Gaff, It would not let me download a copy, now I can't find it,

Yes I know, those darn Krauts

I was wondering how you hold up those square sails, what the rigging would look like. Are you going to run a beam along the top ? Gaffelbaum = Gaffbeam
