All righty then. Have my Revolver close to being ready to fly. Couple of questions. I installed a Rimfire 1.20. I ran a test today. 6S 5000, CC 100 amp ESC and a 16 X 8 prop. Showed 100 amps and 2219 watts. I see on this forum a 17 X 8 does the same thing. Kind of a newbie to this stuff. What can I do to bring the amps down to about 80?

Go fast, pull up.

I am surprised that a 17x8 puts out the same amps as your 16x8. Unless he is running a lower timing, but even then, it seems odd. If you want to drop amps, you need to drop load. That means lower pitch or lower size. Pitch means more bite per revolution, which means more speed. Length generally gives me thrust.

If you want speed, go with a 14x8 or 15x8
If you want more thrust, usually for unlimited vertical, go 15x6 or 16x6

As for watts, 100-125 watts per pound should be a great starting point, unless you want a rocket plane or 3d flying plane.

Do a web search for "dc_calc" it's dc prop calc, which is a great program for helping you determine what power you will get with different configurations.

According to the manufacturer, you should be at a 16x6 apc-e prop. Using a prop meant for nitro increases amp draw with minimal performance gain or loss. If you are really getting 100A on a 16x8, you might have an issue with timing being wrong on the esc or the motor is rubbing against something.

Sweet maiden!

Finally maidened my Revolver 70 this morning after a nearly three year wait. (2009 Christmas present from my wife) Crosswind at about 15-20 km/h. (approx 10-13 mph) and she flew really well. Four clicks of down and we were hands-off except for gusts...handled these really well too.
Rimfire 80, ICE 100 (is this too much?) and 4500 mah 6s with 15x7 prop.
Worth the wait!

I have mine dialed in at 160oz running the Rimfire 1.20 and APC 14x10 on 7s5000 45C lipos. Clocked at 115mph level circuits and no wind.

82.5Amps at 26.7Volts 11100RPM for 2200Watts @89.9%eff. Motor is only warm after flights.

Canopy

Has anyone switched to magnets or modified the hold downs for the canopy?

Good idea. I want a tool-less fast way to get the canopy off rather than installing an arming plug.

I have a dozen flights with 7s5000 lipo and 14x10apce full throttle and have yet to have the motor, or battery more than warm. But, I have been flying in 60F weather.

5 Cell?

I just picked up 2 big 5cell 6000Mah Max Amps lipos at a swap meet that are like new and balance perfectly...for $5 each! New they were over $300 for the pair. I fly the Rimfire 80 and knowing that I dont fly wide open with my 6 cell TP's very much, any opinions on how these might fly the plane? Anyone flown this with 5 cells?

I dunno about 5 cells, that would put the amps required, at around 70-80amps. IN my opinion this planes flies with authority at 1k-watts, 1.2k is even better. 6-8 cells fits fine.

My 8-cell setup can be viwed here:
