I just bought some 17x12 props to run on my 1.20. just wanted to make sure there were no issues with this setup.

When I ran the 17x12 with the 120 it exceeded the amp draw for my CC Ice 100 esc.

Ok, what's the best setup to keep the electronics cool, amps down and longer flight times? Not to worried about speed at this time.

When I ran the 17x12e prop the amps read 143. Then the esc shut off. With the 17x8e prop I get 94 amps and 2110 watts. I get a full 5min flight before attempting to land and only put 3750 mah back in a 6s 65c 5000mah Pack. It's fast and pulls vertical till u can't see it anymore. I like my setup but for the future I might go up to 8s with a different motor. Below is my setup

Rimfire 1.20
CC Ice 100
65c 6s 5000 mah pack
1500 nimah rx pack
17x8e prop
Changed control rods to 4-40 with sulivan c clip rod ends (less flex than 2-56)

going to maiden mine tonight with a gens ace 6s 5300mah 30c lipo, 80 amp hobbywing esc, 12x7 xoar electric prop and rimfire .60 motor and castle bec. (no rx battery onboard)

i will let you know how it goes, watt meter shows 2000 watts at 80 amps full throttle.

plane is 9lbs giving me 222 watts per pound

Make sure your carefull with the throttle on that set-up. Your well beyond the motors continious rating and very near its max burst. I suppose it will unload a bit once in the air but keep it in check and watch motor/esc/battery temps till you know your safe. Should be some pretty good performance otherwise so be sure to give a report on the maiden.

planed flies well but my esc seems to be screwed up... when i throttle up slow no big deal, when i throttle up fast, past half throttle the motor decides to lock up then start sputtering and running backwards and forwards, like it cant decide. at first thought it was the timing, set the esc to low and then it seemed to fix it but then it started doing it randomly again... i am going to put a castle ice 100 on it tomorrow and see if the problem goes away, otherwise its the motor thats having issues

yeah , i am flying this setup in my mig 27 drone from carl goldberg only using an apc 12x8 and castle 100 ice esc. i can fly for 20 mins on a 6s 5300 lipo because the plane cruises around at 1/4 to half power

It certainly sounds like a setting issue to me, however, I've been using a Rimfire .80 in a different plane with a Hobbywing 70A ESC. I left all settings in the default position and have had no issues. Hope you can get it sorted.

Have you tried with a different esc? could be the motor.

Check to see if your ESC setting for pole count is correct....

switched to a castle ice 100 and now the problem is solved. motor runs fine. not sure if the pentium 80 opto esc itself went bad or if there were some cold solder joints on the bullet connectors. i will look into the esc further to see if it can be salvaged before i just trash it
