I can't find anyone that carries the burners separate from the boilers. Looking for a Saito-like alcohol burner. Does anyone carry steamer parts 'ala carte'?

Your better off with a ceramic butane burner. I do not know of any supplier who makes a saito like burner for alcohol.

You really need to know what boiler you are going to be using before you look for a burner.

I'm looking into the burner for other reasons than the boiler mostly for testing. I had found that other page while doing searches for burners, thanks for noting it here though, I may need to go back to it!

US based -Sulphur Springs models mostly for live steam loco's..Brooks shared this site with me- It has double unions and many fittings and oiler's etc. Hint- print off price list ( done item number - price) so you can look up pricing more easily--this is where Brooks got his BAGRS loco stuff and most of the steam stuff for his paddler!

Maybe we can restructure Post #1 to have ALL of these resources organized by type? Just a hint... (Mr. Ghost? Calling Mr. Ghost?)

SH-

Those are nice boilers and the price seems reasonable as well. Wonder if we can get that first post of the thread updated to carry all these great suggestions!

Mogogear asked me about the difference between the Midwest Heritage engine and their Model VI engine. If you want to see the 2 kits, the Tower site has both:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...team&search=Go

Based on the Tower dimensions, the Heritage piston has about 1.8x the area of the VI piston.

The $40 difference in kit price covers the boiler construction costs and the larger, more brass, engine I expect.

I wonder how much difference the 3/32 in piston diameter makes in running? It would be interesting if some one had both engines and ran them in the same hull off the same boiler. I think the only difference in boilers is the Heritage comes Pre-Assembled with a safety valve. Is the Heritage soft or hard soldered ?

Gerald.

Description I read says" Silver soldered" which seems odd for a low pressure boiler-But I welcome it if it is!

The Towers site is the only one that says Silver soldered all the others including Midwest just say pre-soldered.

I have phoned Midwest and the one on the order desk took my number and is going to find out for me, the Boilers are not done there but sent out.

Gerald.

They do not look like actual silver solder. Probably lead free solder which given the purpose is acceptable.

I looked at one down at the LHS at $149.99 Can., but could not tell if it was Silver Solder or not. It didn't look the same as the Silver Solder I use, but there are many different types, and the new lead free solders look different then the old leaded ones. I haven't heard back yet from Midwest, they will probably phone tomorrow when I am out.
Regards,
Gerald.
