New Wiggle-Drive.

New Wiggle-Drive.

Thanks to Sean Kinkade selling me a complete counter rotating gear, I have now converted this gear in to a Wiggle-Drive. The first test with this prototype drive is giving a very good result. Maybe a new flying bird will be the result.

I like to show the different wing movement comparing Crank shaft + conrod with the wing movement of the Wiggle –Drive.
The Crank mechanism moves the wing in an asymmetric Sine motion.
The Wiggle mechanism moves the wing in perfect Sine motion, like the Scotch yoke mechanism, but eliminated the noise from the backlash and allow faster flapping frequency.
To make the wing twist with the crank mechanism, extra mechanic parts have to be added with extra weight.
The Wiggle Drive make the wing twist to the same angle as the flapping angle.

Using natural feather propulsion for Ornithopters.
It is impossible to make anything better than the Primary feathers used by birds.
Thousand of Primary feathers are thrown in the dust bin every day. Why don’t use them in the Ornithopter market to build nearly perfect wings?
I have done some tests with Pigeon feathers with very good result. The thrust the Fan-effect produced by the Primary feathers is the best I have been able to see, comparing with the tests I have bee doing with different wing material

Feathers are in my opinion one of nature's most wonderful creations. But they are far from perfect and still in development. As I keep birds myself please take a closer look to them. Birds spend a half of a day by cleaning the feathers. Feathers need a special oil to give a little protection against water. They need tallow over and over to bring the feathers in condition. Every year they have to mould because feathers wear and are not durable. .but they are perfect to fold a wing and create a profile. Each feather has a muscle to keep it at the right place. I think that artificial materials are better for our models. We also do not use bones for body and wing structures but carbon and metals.

I did also study feathers and tried to copy. I didn't succeed, I coudn't make a feather with the same weight as a natural one.
