foster city and s.f. results

saturday at foster city results are as cited above. this is the proposed venue for the regionals next year, the nationals the following year and the worlds in 2015. we were in #2 rigs pretty much all day. foster city is a man made lake like body of water that is quite large, salt water, and no current.

the next day, sunday, we sailed at pier 80 in san francisco, at the oracle racing facility. this in s.f. bay and has current and salt water. ian vickers won. tony did well until his deck patch lifted and he came closer to sinking than he wished. the racing was less formal and i've not seen results posted. again, we used #2 rigs all day. oracle went all out with new zealand wine to the top ten, bbq for all, and a tour of the facilities. the tour include both 45 foot america's cup boats and the new 72 footer and their wings.

Spoke to Tony yesterday and Foster city sounds similar to West Kirby as a dammed salt water lake controlled by a high tide valve,he also said the wind needs to be in the right direction so there's a particular time of year when this is more likley to happen,there's windsurfers and kayaks with a few dingy sailboats but it's like 3 times the size of WK and no trees.I agree some pics would be great.

Foster City lagoon

This link takes you to photos from our June test event. It was lighter air, mostly mid to top of A rig:

The event last weekend was mostly B rig. A lot of boats had various troubles, but none having to do with the location. It was a great day.

raced at kerikeri today, pretty much a laythrough to topmark and the wind was very tricky. two v8s did well .Ithink getting that first beat right was critical but i had trouble with starting.

Looks like a beautiful location, I hope to be able to attend the Regional race next year.

It also looks very gusty, is that typical?

Hi Ted,
The sailing conditions for the Regatta Foster City;
Wind was NNW shifting to N, then a more Westerly direction late in the day. 7 mph (6 knots) to 18 mph (16 knots) under scattered clouds with temperature ranging from 64˚ F (17.7˚ C) to 71˚ F (21.6˚C) Conditions reported are from the closest reporting station, and my vary from conditions at the Lake. Prevailing wind is from the NNW. Wind direction is true, not magnetic, add approximately 15˚ to the compass heading to compensate for magnetic declination. http://www.wunderground.com/history/...q_statename=NA

The gusts encountered at Foster City Saturday Sept 8 were strong and of short duration. This was the first time this type of gust was encountered in the four previous regattas sailed on Central Lake. The gusty conditions moderated latter in the day. The regatta got under way around 12:00 noon and ended 5:30 pm PST
