UK IOM Nationals 2012

It's that time again in the UK for the One Metre National Championships there are 74 entrants I have entered amongst all the other's and tomorrow (Friday) is measuring and practice day with Saturday, Sunday and Monday the racing days. Here's a link to the entrants list the venue is a very large lake and the forecast is 10 MPH winds so looks like top rig throughout the weekend.
All the big names will be there and the World Champion Peter Stollery has borrowed a BritPop from Graham Elliott who unfortunatly cannot be there, I will be taking many photo's of the event and shall post daily if possible.

UK Nats

Hi Toni -
While taking pictures of the boats sailing could you also take some pictures of the boats in there stands/on land?
It's always fun to see the deck layouts and the various ways some sailors rig there boats.

Hi Toni,

Looking forward to the updates and also seeing how the Psychos go.
Also agree with Houdini photos of deck layouts would be great.

Good luck as well.

thanks guys, no problem I'll click away anything particular or any boats on the list just ask I'll do my best.

you'll notice not some of the latest designs on the list like Chienz and V8 although Graham Bantock is sailing his strange looking Fraktal and some of the latest Lintel MMX's from Dave Creed also interesting to see Tony Edwards who builds the Robot and BritPop under license is sailing a BritiPop in the event

V-8 speed

Ian Vickers sailed his V-8 to the region 6 championship. He dominated the racing. He never was demoted to the B heat. In one heat he did 2-3 penalty turns.

Anyway, his boat speed was very good. There were many very fast sailors and fast boats. Was the V-8's boat speed dominant? i don't know. My guess is it was at, least, slightly better than the others and maybe more so. His comebacks were awesome.

Starboard roundings for a national championship course?
A recipe for disaster I would suggest.

New iom design called "ie" from Jon Emalah in NYC built and sailed by Todd Olson in NZ.
This is a balsa planked trial horse. Looks good so far. Sailed for very short time against a V8 and was even. Used with b rig yesterday and was very impressed with downwind in gusts.

Jon Emalah is still around. Way cool, he was one on the pre-eminent designers when I was into RC sailboats after I graduated from High School.

Hi Guy's,

I've just been reading back a few pages, well quite a few and I see a post from 8387mike post #2415 that I feel is worthy of commenting on;

He says that Jeff Byerley has time to build a "Destroyer" for a mate and is not loyal to customers "who have waited 12 months" to get a boat. I can only assume you are talking about the Cheinz? If so, my understanding is they were not being built 12 months ago.

It's a pity comments are made on a forum such as this where individuals can make incorrect statements and not held accountable due to the opportunity of remaining anonymous.

Peace one and all

Look under 2012,Caption says he's the future obviously they don't know his age,if we were sailing in age groups he would have been sailing in the 10 and under for the last 25 yrs.
