got 90 mins in on our local slope with the alula. on my first flight I had the CG set so it just balanced on the 2 balance dimples below the fuselage. It was too pitchy, almost uncontrollable. So I added another ounce up front, its perfect now.

Our slope has a lot of rotor, its a step slope and sometimes down low close to the slope you get hammered pretty good. I have the controls set up for a lot of throw. I just use a little control while flying normally, but definitely need it for recovery from the rotor.

a couple of hawks came by but they didnt give it a second look

Porpoising usually means it's nose heavy. Or too much elevator throw.

how does the nose hang when you prop it up on the balance points?

Here's the pod set up I have for my Alula:

OrangeRX receiver with case removed.

2S 280 LIPO also from NQRC (doesn't look like they carry these lipos anymore)

I had to attach three 7g lead weights to the battery to get correct CG.

I shouldn't have made the suggested cutout for the belly covering since as you can see from the photo, the belly has to be cut further forward for me to access the charge and balance plug for the Lipo battery.

Weight came out to 6 oz. Still trying to get CG dialed. The Alula tends to loop if I throw it at too steep of an angle. Tried to slope it earlier today, but the winds were too strong where I went (15 mph with gusts).

doesnt sound nose heavy. you sure you werent a little slow on the airspeed?
When mine was balanced so it hung "flat" on the points it was too pitchy, would loop when thrown like the previous post mentioned. Thats tail heavy.

when I added just a little more lead up next to the battery it smoothed out. I can throw it and it climbs straight up without wanting to pitch up or down.

It will hover in one spot without porpoising. But when I got too slow it did porpoise some

or just set up some differential throw to desensitize around center stick. I need the travel because there is BAD rotor on our hill and I need it to stay in control

slow but inefficient

Just finished my first Alula. It's the plane in the middle in case you're wondering.
