Hanger 9 P-47 Thunderbolt 60 Maiden flight
This is a video of the maiden flight of my Hanger 9 P-47. I'm running a 15x6 prop on 2 4s 2650 mAh batteries in series. The motor is a Turnigy 50-65 350 kv. This plane is remarkably well-mannered at all speeds, has a commanding presence in the air, and sounds impressive modified for electric flight. For the electric mod, I cut and hinged a hatch just forward of the canopy, and built a custom motor mount from basswood to properly space the outrunner motor in front of the firewall. It ended up requiring 8 oz of weight in the nose for proper balance. Flight time was about 6 minutes. Video shows the maiden flight on a cloudy day with some nice, closeup passes as well as a dead stick landing, oops!
