Hey cant go wrong with a MiniDV, bit of stuffing around to rip the videos back to the pc but I believe it offers excellent quality and simplicity.

I used to use a laptop with a capture device but it thrashed my battery & ended up screwing with my recordings - dropping frames and such.

Bought a very snazzy sony MiniDV from ebay and its much better - I dont mind fiddling with PC's so I dont mind sitting there ripping the movies, you can get an idea for bits to keep or cut out of your youtube vids

Just my 2 cents, a digital - no moving parts - recorder would be great, I havent been impressed with any yet, given up really - next device will be a sony video walkman, theyre about $2000 brand new but around $700 on ebay - cant go wrong with professional AV equipment.

Hi Guys,

Been getting some questions re the status of the Go Pros, so rather than email you all I will post here.

Fastway Couriers have them, and they are still not here!! They left Go Pro on Friday last week (they are less than 2 hours drive from us) and they are still not here. We are hopeful that we will have them tomorrow. Fastway have basically said - sorry - that's a bit of bad luck!! Wankers.

For the record I paid for an "Overnight" service to make sure I had them for Monday. I think Fastway work on Jupiter time. Fastway - should be called SlowWay.

I am very sorry to all that have ordered - I am so VERY cranky - and will be requesting not to use Fastway again.

Cheers

Good luck! If its the same as I bought , the MPVR +cb, it only records an NTSC signal. All my cameras are PAL.
I gave mine to my daughter for xmas.
I also have another Aiptek that records pal. Its an excellent little recorder with really good quality, but its flakey, Sometimes it just stops after 2 minutes, usually from noise. Sometimes it will run half an hour and sometimes it will record half an hour but the synch will slip and i get half frames overlapping.
At least its cheap. Either way you will end up with a neat little device you can use around the home or car.

Geez - how are you guys finding youtube uploads going?

I'm on TPG ADSL2, and uploading a 571mb movie takes over 6 hours. during that time if your connection burps, you lose the upload.

Really awful. That is 1.5mb a minute. Or 25k/sec.

I hate australian ISPs. I feel like my internet connection is being provided by Scrooge. I've gone from bigpond to AAPT (don't do it!) to TPG and none of them are any good.

Yeah that's why I changed. I was with TPG when there were only 28k modems. I recently changed to iinet and it's great when I upload to vimeo nowhere near what tpg is. Full internet acces but all their ip numbers are listed as spam tho so mail routing is a pain.

It is 571mb @ 10 minutes in HD format (720p, 30fps) h.264. It looks great.

And I just discovered that youtube has truncated it to 1:47, and dropped half the frames even though I babysat the entire download.

so now I switch to vimeo instead and became a premium member

I think video editing and uploading is more difficult than FPV.
