Thanks.
I've read a lot of people talking about Virtual Dub...a freebee program. I looked at it, but didn't think it was very intuitive...but I didn't really play with it either so it might be easier to use than I thought. Might be worth a look see for you at least.

VirtualDub isn't really an editor, more for screen capture and video processing.
I'm looking for iMovie for windows.
Anyone else have any suggestions for a simple editor, 1 step up in complexity from Windows Movie Maker?
Thanks.

I use Pemiere but Sony Vegas is cheaper, simpler and does just about as much. Also, I have never used this but their player is awesome and its free.

It records black and white. 1 frame per second.
I have not found a way to play the files on a pc either.
I gave it to my freind to use on his cars rear view camera.

I'm a little lost on people asking about recorders with no no on-board display. I use my recorder for both recording a SD signal with OSD info, and MOSTLY for retreival purposes should my platform go down. A little portable recorder with play/rewind/fast forward capability AND a built in display is what you really need. Should you go down (I crashed into a Yucca tree) you grab the recorder/display unit, walked out in the direction I was flying, view the vid, look at land marks, and repeat....took me right to my downed quadcopter with very little effort. Had I had a recorder with the above listed capabilities...well...I might as well not had a recorder at all and just walked around aimlessly hoping I'd stumble onto my plane.

I see your point for portability.. My fpv screen is however very portable. I want to bolt the dvr on permanently and I plan to get video goggles with a built in media player.

Also trying to keep down cost. $199 converted to my currency is a .... Lot

Japan DVR file handling

I have used my Japan DVR about three times now. Thanks to the guys on this thread I downloaded VLC player so that I can view the files from the SD card on my Toshiba laptop. Windows media player or movie maker wouldn't handle the files. My last flight was about 15minutes so the video file of the flight is 1.2gigabites.

My question is how to break up the file into smaller pieces or compress the file "out of the box" before it is stored on my old, tired, Toshiba They need to be no larger than 100mg so that I can convert them on-line to AVI's that movie maker will handle. Has anyone else already solved this problem?
