East Coast.........Newport 12 meter

Here are a few pics of my Newport. I've modified the boat to make it look less like a 12 meter and more like a vintage cruiser/racer. Teak deckhouse and steambent coamings, new proper rudder. Still need to add buff decks(to match the deckhouse), teak toerails and a blue bootstripe.

Beautiful job, Seefest! Nice design work you did on the deck- it really goes well with the N12 hull!

She's a standard Newport 12 meter hull,......72 inches long with just under 1600 square inches of sail.

I love your hatch design and the bent coaming, your boat is one of a kind! So... how long until she sails?

Thanks,
I've already sailed her a couple of times. She sails sweet. I was worried about it being too tender for where we sail, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. She's initially tender, but once she heels a bit, she gains alot of stability. I was surprised how fast she was when the wind was up, especially downwind. This is my first traditional model in a long time(have sailed Marbleheads, CR914's, One meter) and I love the change. I'll post some pics of her sailing next time we head down to the harbor.(probably this weekend)

Looking foward to more pictures. It would look great photographed in black n white while sailing, it would look like an old full scale photo. Great job on the cabin detail.

Took the 12 sailing this past Sunday. It was a beautiful November day here in the Northeast. Temps in the 60's with a NE breeze around 10 knots true. I wish I had a better camera for these shots.

Here are a few more. Got the toe rail on and painted the bootstripe. Building a forward hatch and spinnaker pole currently for it.

Looks grand!

What's its final weight?

Are you sailing in salt water?

Thanks and salute!

Ooby,
Yes it's salt water. Padanaram Harbor in South Dartmouth, Ma., on Buzzards Bay. We race big boats in the spring, summer and fall, and sail/race RC boats all winter as long as the harbor is free of ice, which it usually is. We race CR 914's every Sunday and I was sailing the Newport before racing started.
Haven't weighed her yet. I built a float tank at my house to get the waterline right, which it looks like it came out pretty good.
