Slow Stick landing gear upgrade ideas

Hi all! I have been brushing up on my flying skills with a Slow Stick. I recently purchased the Slow Stick V2.0 upgrade kit from Steven's Aero and have made a smooth transition to ailerons, and I've been having a blast!

My question is about the landing gear. The wire landing gear that comes with the stick is less than adequate for my landing site. I fly on my property, but while I have plenty of space, my take-off and landing surface is less than perfect. It is flat, but it is strewn with small pebbles and sand. Add to that the fact that my stick is far from stock, with the addition of the upgraded wing, tail feathers, a brushless motor, and a 3S lipo. While the bird flies great, it is a bit heavier on the landing gear and therefore the cause of my landing gear woes.

I keep having to straighten, bend and unbend the gear, the wheels catch on just about any obstruction causing some nose-ins, and sometimes the gear will do the splits, breaking props at the same time. I have tried to use Millenium RC's upgraded landing gear, but they seem to be very brittle, and aren't holding up. (Been through two sets already.)

Since I can't change my flying field characteristics, what would you all suggest I do to eliminate my landing gear woes? I want to be able to do repeated touch & gos, which now are rare to accomplish without the frequent nose-in. Also, weight is an issue, as I do not want to adversely affect the nice flying characteristics the aircraft exhibits at the moment. I'm a bit of a DIYer so even a home-brewed solution you may have tried would be interesting to consider.

I would love to hear your ideas!

Only one answer...Millennium X-gear.

Well...unless you bend our own.

I've gone through two sets of those gear, and they always seem to break right at the stick clamp. I would bend my own, but what wire should I use? Would coat hanger-style work? How would I attach custom wire gear?

I use fishing line braces to the motor mount and a cross brace on the legs, never have to fool with the lg now..

If you're going to bend your own, then use 3/32" piano (music) wire.

I built mine based on these photos and it's holding up just fine.

Yep, it's working very good, especially since the SS is my AP/AV plane.

I just wish I could remember who actually came up with the design so I could give him the credit.
