I have currently settled on using longer socket head screws, but the heads are not in play. All this has done is provided more threads to eventually cut into the aluminum when the springs move up and down. If I knew what size they were maybe I could order some from McMasterCarr or fastenal. There's a local fastenal, maybe I will visit someday and see what they got. |

haha. no. sorry.
The one in the box. when the strut moves up and down, the grub screw slides against the aluminum, and only 1 or 2 threads have any contact. The hard steel digs into the aluminum. |

ahh, in that case you are correct. the 3 grub screws you have indicated. I file little flat spots on the 5mm rod where all 3 grub screws make contact.

yeah, all I need is the screws now, and nobody in this town has them. Anyway I'll have to get them somewhere, thanks....

They appear to be M3 screws. Fastenal has lots.
I bought (they gave them to me) four of these: I will cut them at the arrows and slot the end so I can tighten them. |

My Package arrived today.
Haven't had a chance yet to have a good look in the box (I'm at work), but the first impressions are good. I will be adding flaps before I do anything drastic (like flying it) and fitting servo-less retracts and larger wheels (might even move the Undercarraige to a more scale position while I am playing with the wing). And while I'm at it, maybe a refinish as K5054 in one of it's various schemes. Cheers, Hugh |

I've had to put the final install on hold till I can locate the 3x10mm set screws but what a sweet conversion and they look stunning. I can't wait till I get them completed with some new gear doors.... |

I had a problem with the gear doors. The strut is so big and my 2.75" Robart tires are so wide that I gave up on that idea for my application. The struts stick too far out... If you figure out a way to do it, please share!

Thanks guys (Please note that I will be putting an oil burner up the front).
I will be sure to keep you updated with loads of photos. I just pulled the wing halves and fuselage out of the box during my lunch break. All looks great! It seems very light. I think I will have a look at the undercart position and may well end up moving the wheel wells back to scale position if it does not interfere with the main spar too much. Should be able to fit a scale wheel in then. The supplied retracts look pretty awful. Keep them as spares. Never throw anything away, no matter how cr@p it looks at first sight. Has anybody looked at reducing the size of the Horizontal Stab to scale size? On a model this size, it should not be an issue. I am sure it is only as big as it is for added stability. Dick, your Aileron/Flap work will be used as a reference I think. Cheers, Hugh |

Thanks Dick.
I have some ideas on that score. Maybe spring the flaps closed and use the servo to actuate (Deploy the flaps), that way the servo is not actually working when the flaps are closed. This could be accomplished by means of a spring and pin on the control rod... I'll have to think about that further. Shame the outer panel of the wing is only film skinned and not sheeted. I was actually toying with stripping and recovering. Still could I guess. Cheers, Hugh |
