Are you using the "standard" 2212-06 motor? (You battery can deal with 45A - that should be sufficient for it.) Did you add vents to get some air flow in the fuselage? |

another error design error is how keep your battery with the first good crash the battery take with her the base with the scratch . The nose must be from balsa and the battery must go up not down and the base holder battery must be stronger with balsa.
I put the servos out and down even think about to buy servo 3.7grammar it work for me but in the first crash the servo broke is'n good .Buy only 9gr servo |

I just got my BD-5 and thank you by the way.......I ave been looking at motors and the only ones I can find with the recommended rating are micro brushless ones. Will these work with this plane?
The motors I have been looking at are on Hobby King..... |

In order to have a reasonable power/weight ratio you should look for a motor that provides approx. 700 g / 23 oz. with 6x4 or 7x5 prop. You can find the "standard" 2212-06 quite cheap on ebay. |

Ready for maiden
My BD-5 is ready for maiden. As Marcel requested in his initial post I'm attaching some pics of the finished bird.
The build went well without major issues, aileron linkages where a bit tricky though. I have done quite a number of scratch builds already and this is one of my favorites as it looks very clean (all linkages in the fuselage, built-in wing dihedral, very sharp look etc.). Excellent design, Marcel. Many thanks for the plans! Modifications I did: - Scaled the plans up to 113% to get it to 1m / 39.3" wing span - Added 1mm / 1/32" plywood above and below the dihedral formers for additional strength as I felt they were flexing too much under load - Added RC-switchable LEDs for head light, navigation lights and strobe (this idea occurred to me because of the split wing spar through which I ran the wiring for navigation lights and loads of room in the fuselage) Components used: - Zippy FlightMax 2200mAh 20C 3S LiPo - Corona 6Ch 35Mhz Receiver - 3x 9g servo - Modified servo electronics for switching the LEDs - 30A ESC and 2212-06 Motor - 6x4 E prop In spite of the enlarged plans, AUW is quite low with 19 oz. (540 g). So the approx. 700 g / 23 oz. thrust of the 2212-06 should still send the bird vertical. Finish is inspired by the 007 scheme and done with permanent markers and transparent packing tape. I hope to do the maiden this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. |

Thanks, Sammy70.
Maiden went well. I had the CG too far in front on the 1st flight. Now it's more or less on the spar and the plane flies great likes this. I could even accommodate a 2500mAh 3S LiPo in the fuselage which allows for 16 minutes of flying time. I still need to experiment on the thrust line. Although I inserted two washers below the motor mount, the bird still takes the nose down and rolls slightly left when opening up the throttle. (I remember reading earlier in this thread that others also had to increase down thrust.) Another thing I noticed is that this plane is really LOUD for a parkjet. I use the same motor / prop combo in a Polaris and her noise level is rather unremarkable but the BD-5 really screams. Is that maybe due to the big fuselage becoming a resonating body? Has anyone else made similar experiences? |

You can fine tune the thrust angle but you will still get some pitch down effect if you open the throttle quickly. I haven't noticed any torque rolling on mine. The difference in noise between this and the Polaris is mostly due to the pusher layout, but the big fuse might also have something to do with it, like you suggest. Marcel |

Wonderfull plane, and I'm planning making it for a schoolproject. So a few questions : So, the Battery, the control for the motor, receiver are all in the front? The servo's are above the both wings and the motor is in the back?
Is this all right? (Sorry for my bad English, I live in the Dutch so it's not my native language. ) And is 3mm Depron enough, or can you better take 6mm, or becomes this to heavy? Thanks a lot |

@ Luukieboy
I live in Holland too. If you have any questions, email me: evbragt @ tiscali . nl Marcel, the designer of this model, is from South Africa and understands Dutch as well as you understand southafrican. If you take a look at the first posts, you see the build and this will answer most of your questions... |

Okey, thanks.
I've looked to the photo's again and just printed all the pages at home, and it's clear now. Just have to buy some Depron and all the mechanical parts. |

Another question : Do you need to use Carbon sticks to improve the wings? Or is 6mm depron thick enough? Thanks a lot.
