We can't do much from afar but if you guys would like funds for gravel let us know and the Olyslopers will pass the hat. We really appreciate the effort.

Springtime in Oregon

* I am back in the area after a month away

* Hang glider pilots flew the crap out of Petersons Wednesday and you know that means it was good for RC too

* I haven't flown anything, hang glider or rc, there yet in 2013 but it's high time

* The Festiva can still make it up the road but maybe not for long, happy to help with repairs

Web address for weather station on top of Peterson Butte.
I just talked with Charles from Alyrica Data (541-929-3330) he was going to the top and working on the station. Winds are 10-16 mph.

Any idea if that weather station on the tower in the parking area or at the very top?
I'm going to try to go over lunchish tomorrow if it's not raining too much in Corvallis.

Is the WX station on top of PB new? I'm glad that finally happened...

Tomorrow morning looks the driest with SW wind. At this point Friday looks like a washout, but great wind; Saturday is W and Sunday is SE.

* I have a url for windtalker on top. Will post soon. (Oops I see it is already posted. Awesome. I got an email a few days ago from someone at Alyrica re this. The windtalker has been there well over a year but the public internet link has just recently been made available.)

* Had a nice mellow session in the 2-m Spyder Mon and another today with stronger lift, she was at her best with loops and inverted loops and down-loops and inverted down-loops.... such a sweetheart... I've been doing some flying with keychain video cameras for yaw string observations but unfortunately had none on when that Bald eagle tucked up REALLY close behind me today... I had to add just a touch of butterfly/ crow to match our sink rates and then he/she followed me around for about a minute in very close formation

* Got some hang gliding air time too today

* Looks like we have some strong wind coming esp. Fri and a few dry windows somewhere in there too...

* The road repair isn't holding up as well as I hoped it would still totally passable but will need some attention at some point...

* Saw a Prairie Falcon there Mon (along with 10 Bald eagles and a few rough-legged hawks), something you don't see everyday in the green Willamette valley...

alternate url for wind talker on top of summit Petersons

Note the "current conditions" tab

I think this is the correct url, the one on post 919 is only at 400 feet elevation it appears...

Steve, with regard to the road, I'm waiting on a neighbors trailer then I'm going to get a load of 3/4- gravel for the dip. It won't do any good on the asphalt that's buckling but it should be OK for the gravel portion.
Just not sure when I'll get a chance to get it. I was hoping last weekend but he's still in California.

video-- eagle encounters at Peterson Butte

Check out this video of some encounters with Bald eagles at Peterson Butte yesterday--

(Also at 0:59 if you look close you can see Hoody Pant's Typhoon fly by ...)

Eagle Encounters at Peterson Butte - 2-21-13- r.c. sailplane (1 min 54 sec)

Here are some slow-motion excerpts but the colors are lost

Eagle Encounters at Peterson Butte-- with slow motion-- shorter version-- 2-21-13 -- r.c. sailplane. (1 min 34 sec)

Looks like I need to stop using AVS Video Editor and start using something else for making slow-motion shots. Who has suggestions for editing programs that are easy to use and work well? Will mainly be editing Go Pro footage and keychain camera footage...

Steve: Cool "wing man" I would say that the bird was not to upset since he did not bear his claws.
