Anyone have a ballpark cost on the cost differance in setting up a Gas 72" plane like the new 330 vs. the cost to setup a 87" plane like the SHP.

Thanks

Probably save a couple hundred on the airframe, a little on shipping, $80 on the engine and $200 on servos (same number, I believe, but you can get away with $50 servos instead of $90 servos). Most everything else you'll need for both (batteries, ignition cut-off, receiver, etc.).

All together I guess you'd probably save $600 going 72" vs 87".

Can you do a smoke system on a gas 30?

I was able to resist the 57" but I'm planning for this one. I may go gas though

Yeah, why not? Even if you can't get a gas muffler for it, you can drill out the stock muffler for smoke.

I dunno never used gas motor b4. I tried smoke on glow motors back in the 90's but not much luck.

I always said that 100cc would be my first gas motor but this one might be instead.

Well, the 65Vyper is almost here, put it in low rates, there's a pattern plane

Originally early this year I was going to get a 50cc 3DHS plane like the slick as my first gasser but I didn't because of $$$ and various other things. I would still like to have one but it would require me to make it with a detachable rudder in order for it to fit in my ford ranger bed with the tailgate up from corner to corner. But I just saw a 70" e-Slick maiden a few weeks ago and that’s the perfect size plane. Not too big and not small. It'll also fit easily in the ranger without disassembling the tail.

So after reading above about the long flight times they are getting I read the https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1058219 - 68" Velox thread and I’m more than likely going to get either the DL-30 ready slick or extra because:

-The velox’s are weighing in less than 10lbs and they say you can hover it at 1/4 throttle!!! So it’s a gasser but has electric style performance and basically out performs a 50cc bird.
-10minute flights are great since I'm getting tired of 6 minute flights on my electrics (but electrics are still great)
-Should only cost about $1000 to have it RX ready where as a 50cc would take about $2,000+ to get it ready
-It burns less gas per minute than a larger motor and I can just fly all day at the field. Just have to monitor the rx/ignition batteries.
-Also I mentioned on the 68” thread that with a complete smoke system ready to go with oil, battery, pump, and tank would increase the weight about 13oz which should not effect performance that much. Blucor Basher agreed and was already putting a smoke system in one of his. Also with the smoke tank empty and no smoke battery, the additional weight is less than 4oz. So I’m going to have smoke system in mine!!!!

I just hope they will qualify as 1/4 scale so I can get away with flying them and giant events. I'm just over 5' tall so a 6' tall airplane will be giant from my perspective.

HugoCraft,

That sounds great. A gas 330SC would compliment my 70" E-Slick and 68" Velox well. I think I'm going the gas route as well. And if I can't get it started I'll fly the electric. On the 68" Velox and 70" Slcik on 6s 3700 I get 6 minutes. on 6s 5000 I get 8 minutes with 25% left in the pack. I'm very happy with 8 minute flights on electric and multiple batteries.

I'm torn between the extra and slick. I have the 51" slick but I like the looks of the extra.

I have to agree with everyone. Flying Dreams let me get a couple of flights on his 57" yesterday. Really looking forward to owning the 72".
