New Product

FMS 60 inch foam P-51D

I picked it up this morning and if it was the RTF version I'd be flying it already! It isn't the RTF version though, although it looks like it is RTF even though I haven't even touched the tube of glue or installed any electrics yet.

My plan is to give it the same Silkspan treatment I have given all my GWS warbirds, install a scale size 4 bladed Vario prop and give it a paint job so it looks like a work of art, not a large foam RC toy. I also intend installing full retracts including tail wheel and flaps. At last a model that is big enough for all the extra weight I will be putting into it.

Hi Peter,

I got it here http://www.extremerc.com.au/
He is a local guy with his own webstore. I managed to pick it up from him this morning. If you check out the video he has posted on his website, you will see that there isn't enough pitch in the prop for the 500kv motor that comes with the model if you buy the RTF version. I got the "airframe only" version and will put the parts out of the dead Katana in it. My motor is 650kv so I'll see how it goes with the stock prop first. It comes with retracts (minus servos) for mains and tail wheel! At last a scale foam airframe worthy of doing a real makeover on.

I just finished fixing the tailplane on the Sebart Su 29 so I hope to fly it successfully tomorrow.

Very tempted but there's so many temptations in this hobby, just about to maiden the Sebart Sukhoi on Thursday, I'm sure that will give me the fix I need for now.
I'll get to fly the mustang next week as it is my friends first flights so I get to have a go while he learns, maybe if it flys well I'll be tempted.

Motor numbers for FMS P-51D.

Turnigy SK 4260-500 kv motor with the stock 4 blade prop.

15.21 Volts
40.9 Amps
622 Watts
6757 RPM

Turnigy SK 4250-650 kv motor with stock 4 blade prop.

14.91 Volts
55.7 Amps
831 Watts
7305 RPM

I think I'll go for the 500 kv motor with the stock prop. The Varioprop needs a larger motor and 6S.

Chris,
What's your thought on linkage ? Are you going with "only" piano wire ? Or could using Sullivan Gold-N-Rod be an idea ?

Hi Peter,

All pushrods are installed or supplied for controls, but mine came without the linkages for the main retracts. I'll make some out of wire and carbon rod I think. When will you get your P-51?

I can't believe that! Did you find out what they were doing with it all that time?

Turning papers..., + I had to pay tax+handling fee (handling fee 2/3 of total amount) in advance to a bank account

The build starts.

I am starting with the wings. I am making them one piece for strength and so I can somehow use one servo to operate the flaps using torque rods.
