I have just gotten one of these as well, and as a big fan of the RC Factory Yak 54, I was curious to see how it differed from the 54. These photos show that the ailerons, elevator, and rudder are all bigger on the 55. However, the 55 has a bit less side area which may affect KE flight. Your build looks great, barnesyboy, and I'm very curious to hear how you feel it compares to the 54.

I like the violent stuff!
Only had my 54 for a month. I love the way it flys! But I'm going to be getting the 55 to replace it. Neil is right, less side area will effect knife edge, but the bigger rudder will make up for it. I like a plane with less side area because it will flat spin better. I like those huge ailerons too. Gonna be a snap monster!

Let's hope your weather improves, BB, so you can try her out.

In the meantime, here are some photos I got from a young Czech pilot, Marek Plichta, showing the monster throws he has set up on his Yak 55 ailerons. The photos also show the unique aileron servo set up where the servo is mounted on the side of the fuse with the servo arm glued to a piece of carbon fiber that is attached to the inside edge of the aileron. Direct drive, no linkage required!

Now wouldn't it be great if Ben at 3D Hobby Shop started importing and selling these things?

Ben did make this post early in the RC Factory Yak 54 thread, but we never heard another peep from him.

I got it direct from RC Factory in Prague. They have not yet starting importing them to the US, but I expect that Northeast Sailplanes will carry them since they are selling the Yak 54.
