Obama bought me pizza and a parenting class!

Last week I took a 2 hour class called "Love and Logic".

Anyone else familiar with this? What do you think? Do you agree with the parenting philosophies?

I really enjoyed the evening and got a lot out of the class.

But right when I walked in at the registration table I discovered it was free. I almost walked out in disgust.

Apparently, they got a grant to pay for the class from the Feds. Besides including 4 weeks of once a week classes, there is also plenty of money to provide take out pizza.

Even though when I pay my business taxes I feel like I have been mugged and my hard earned money stolen by the liberal democrats, I still hate handouts like this. It's just not what our country should be taxing for and paying for.

So, could those who feel more comfortable with Obama and a welfare state help me overcome my guilt of taking something which I don't think I should take?

Also, any comments on the class would be interesting to read...

Take the class, acquire the tools needed to raise the little tyrants.
Eat the pizza.

I've told my kids that i'm sorry for being insufficient for their wants.
They just didn't come with an instruction manual.
Now, they want to go to college. I don't have the money to give them a free ride.
I make too much for them to qualify for grants and scolarships.

It's ok to take this class. This is what I would want for all breeding pairs.
I like that the government wants to provide some good advice for parenting.
Regards
Rick

Become a better parent AND a hair dresser on Obama's nickle!

More than $2.3 million in federal economic stimulus grants have gone to eight Tampa Bay area cosmetology and massage schools to pay tuition for the hairdressers, masseuses and nail technicians of tomorrow.

That's swell news for those who see the beauty trades as a way to gain a firmer footing in the job market. But is there truly demand for more beauty school graduates at bay area salons?

Not really, said Monica Ponce, owner of Muse The Salon in Tampa.

"Instead of encouraging more people to go to beauty schools," Ponce said, "they should probably help the stylists who are unemployed."

Why do you think Obama paid for it? They (Love and Logic) have a list of dozens of funding sources. I doubt this didn't exist until nine months ago. How do you know it wasn't being partially federally funded before Obama took office?

Huh? huh? huh?

I suppose you resolved having the government pay for your kids schooling, this should be easier, as it costs much less, I am sure. And the pizza is probably better than what they serve the kids.

Not familiar with the class that you describe, so I don't have any specific comments on it. In more general terms however, the existence of such classes, that aim to improve the skill sets of the individual in coping in society - parenting in this case - are presumably beneficial to the society as a whole. Though the tangible benefits might only exist way down the road, that sort of investment in people is one of the legitimate uses of tax revenue, probably quite a small one when compared to smart bombs and shoring up a broken financial system.

I've been in Norway this week and, as always, was greatly impressed by how well everything works there. The infrastructure is superb, mostly paid for out of public funds and for the benefit of all. Their childcare provision, especially for working families, also appears to be excellent, with many companies having on-site creches and a very child-friendly society.

True they have advantages in terms of a small population and formidable natural resources, but that is greatly aided by a co-operative mindset and deep sense of community. That probably goes a long way towards the Scandinavian countries consistently coming out right at the top in the tables of quality of life and human development.
