This tripod

http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PSTND...9504431&sr=8-2

and this mount

http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-LATSA1...ef=pd_sim_MI_2

I use that tripod and a similar mount (just a different brand I found locally) and it works great. The tripod is incredibly strong and I don't have to worry about loading it up with a 20 lb wooden box. Only downside to the tripod is that you cannot sit down and fly because it's minimum height is pretty tall.

It's still a work in progress and I would welcome some suggestions.

What is the best way to power up everything gel cell or lipo?
Is it best to fuse everything or would one fuse be enough.
I usually fly with goggles the screen is just in case I have a problem, is a sun screen necessary?

Thanks

Guy

I fished it out of a dumpster but I think it was a storage case for wood working tools.

Haha, no shame never have had it. Normally I have a dvr recorder on top of the receiver. This gives it the added sky scraper effect.

Lipos work fine for me. Less weight. I always incorporate a single 5a circuit breaker. And a Watts Up monitor in line. The C/B doubles as a handy on off switch.

Alum case for GS

I just picked up an Alum case at Harbor Freight for $22.49 plus they have a coupon for an additional 20% off in the Sunday newspaper more often then not.

Egg carton foam in the top section, a serrated (remove the serrations to fit the component) 2 inch foam in the bottom section, both of which can be removed.

Also has dividers that can be customized, double locks and a carrying strap.

Pretty good price and much better then the WallyWorld guncases.

edit: should have mentioned, it does NOT have a 1/4-20 mount in the bottom. If you want to mount it on a tripod you'll have to come up with your own mounting system.

Hey that's a cool case, the way it opens it acts as it's own sun screen. I see you found it in a dumpster, no other markings to id manufacturer? Nice ground rig too.

My new ground station

Well I have been lurking here for a year... first actual post...

Started researching a year ago, got my ham license last fall, spent the winter building and comprehending. Started flying in May and now am out 2700ft with a reliable connection. Decided to consilidate ground items into a box to simplify at field connections and reduce wire clutter. Here it is...

Thanks to all the help from those blazing the trail before me.

benderfly,

I did a lot of searching, and studying, and I still had questions that I needed to ask, and get answers too.

You're a better man than I am.

It looks good.

Thanks Mike. I still have a long way to go. I have been flying RC aircraft (fixed and rotary wing) for 10+ years so it is not about piloting as much as it is about electronics, RF, and acclimation...
